About Me

DarKsLide, an ongoing solo project started in fall 2005, has created to date over 100 arrangements and songs that sprawl genres from hard rock guitar to dance, industrial to experimental, acoustic to electronica and more. DarKsLide aims to create music that will take listeners to a new sonic world.Songwriter/Arranger/Guitarist James Kuczmarski has played guitar in several bands: Outcast (95-96), Punksure (97-99), and Standing Down (01-02), all hailing from Edmonton, Alberta (Canada). With a background and influences heavily into punk, post-punk, industrial, underground and mainstream alternative music, DarKsLide connects an original melodic guitaring style with a new digital era, joining forces of distortion with ambiance and crushing synth pads, jagged bass with processed string ensembles and various samples with layered effects creating intricate digital soundscapes. DarKsLide is mostly composed and mixed using Ableton Live. After 2 yrs. of production, DarKsLide's debut is upon the horizon......

Band Website: in the works....
Band Members: James Kuczmarski - guitar, bass, synths, vox & sample arranging.
Influences: So many, it's hard to list only a few. I would buy an old tape and a new cd everyday if I could. Let's just say; punk in general (the complete evolution thereof) and bits of industrial, electronica, hard rock and basically most well written, catchy or challenging music. My overall style is influenced mostly by:Ministry- Fugazi- The Prodigy- Pennywise- City and Colour- NOFX- SoundGarden- The Beatsteaks- The Crystal Method- Protest The Hero- The Brat Attack- Glass and Ashes- NIN- Beck- Green Lizard- KMFDM- Neil Young- Sevendust- the smalls.- White Zombie- Beastie Boys- Danzig *including Glenn Danzig's Black Aria- ALL/Descendants- Green Day (c'mon admit it...back in '96 you loved 'em too!)- Rancid (circa Let's Go!)- Bad Religion- Days of the Newand many more. I try to see the beauty in all forms of music, period. When I first picked up a guitar, I was mostly naive to underground music and was inspired by more mainstream bands like Metallica, Green Day, and Black Sabbath. Bad Religion would have been the first 'almost-mainstream' indie band I heard. I was all of 16, and discovering new excellent bands on a daily basis, expanding my awareness. I became inspired by many groundbreaking Canadian Punk bands like SNFU, DOA, Propaghandi, Dayglo Abortions and Guttermouth. This developed into an appetite for many other forms of punk rock. I was inspired to pick up a guitar in the first place in thanks to my friend Nathan, all this music I was hearing, and a need for my own release.Over the last 4 yrs. I've been close to the Edmonton local band scene (running a venue) and seen/heard a lot of different bands that have really blown my mind. The flood gates have opened, I have been exposed to a lot of cool bands. Some local bands from Edmonton worth mentioning are Uncle Outrage, Whiz Kidz, Red Hot Daggers, Blacklisted, and Fractal Pattern. I could go on. The Edmonton scene is AMAZING and there is something for everyone. It goes without saying that almost every part of Canada has bands worth bragging about. Across the globe, it's there wherever people are inspired to express themselves. All you really have to do is seek it out.In Vancouver, I gotta shout out for Burning Down, The Doers, Rio Bent, The Redscare (RIP) and Side 67, to name a few.In Victoria, Ryan's amazing howlin' with the Switchblade Valentines, punchy band Away Rio, the soft stylings of Immaculate Machine, plus more I will discover, no doubt.Over the last few years, with the home recording revolution, many excellent musicians/arrangers/producers have been really coming out of the woodwork, inspiring me. Whether it's trance, IDM, breakbeat or other more obscure sub-genres, it's all been expanding and adding ideas. Everywhere you go there are a lot of really talented artists/producers creating their own unique music. Ups to the Ableton Live users out there! In the past year, I've drawn a mix of influences into the inspiration for my songs, but no one band or artist really jumps out; I've just been doing my thing, playing my own guitar style, making progressions in my head, etc. Sometimes my songs come out sounding totally different than what I first envision... but then this music is as much about the process and journey as it is about the hook. I have learned that every little thing is an influence, that you need to act quickly to capture serendipitous harmony. One particular track of mine (entitled The glasses half full) was done strictly with rubbing wet wine glass rims. Keep your ears open always to your soul. INFLUENCE IS EVERYWHERE.
