Alex gained an affinity for vinyl at a young age sifting through his Dad’s LP’s, drawing influences from legends such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley and Fleetwood Mac. Alex’s single-mindedness meant that it wasn’t long before he was into his own style of music and by the late eighties/early nineties he was heavily into artists such as The Stone Roses, The Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and believe it or not Guns n Roses!!
As Dance music progressed throughout the early nineties, Alistair Whitehead was the first DJ that Alex actually listened to Mix, and although he was blown away by this, it wasn’t until Alex sat and listened to a Rennaisance tape that his passion for DJ’ing really began. Pete Tong’s ‘Essential Mix 1’ was released soon after that with a Sasha and Oakenfold combination, which was when Paul Oakenfold suddenly became a part of Alex life. It was then he decided to try his hand a mixing and hasn’t been off the Decks since!!
Time & Space (Stoke) and Golden (Manchester) were Alex’s first choice of Clubs until a major event in Dance History meant that Paul Oakenfold landed the residency in The Annex @ Cream (Liverpool) . Alex literally lived for the weekend, being himself a resident (although not in quite the same was as Oakey) and this was how he met his now good friend and mentor Mick Park.
Alex’s first public appearances were DJ gigs in local pubs and bars, but soon followed with warm up sets for A listers such as Paul Oakenfold, John Digweed and Danny Howells. This took him as far and wide as Liverpool (Alderann), Birmingham (Uni) and to the scene of Sasha’s legendary Fabric after parties in Hoxton where one of Alex’s claims to fame was Bezz (Happy Mondays) saying his set was ‘the best he’d ever heard!’
It was after this early success that night’s such as Motion and Soundgarden followed where Alex was resident alongside Parks & Wilson. It was there that special guests included John Graham (Quivver) Dave Seamen, Andy Holt (Redanka), Andy Moore and Paul Oakenfold. So what does the future hold for Alex Brown…?Priorities include a residency @ Funkagenda, Nakatcha, Nantwich. Launched NYE 2006 at the Crown Ballroom, followed by 4 sell out gigs. Funkagenda is now the most anticipated night in the area, and is looking forward to it's first birthday on NYE 07. As well as this Alex also has a monthly residency at Fever, Stoke with Andy Moore, and studio and production work in the pipeline...
