Building bridges begging for burning

About Me

I'm a writer I guess, and a teacher, and a student (i.e. a philosopher, but that sounds rather pretentious). I spend very little time in my apartment, unless I'm sleeping, which I probably do more than most people. I keep wierd hours. I like to cook. I can stare at aquariums and monkeys for very long periods of time. My latest plan is to sell my car and buy a motorcycle, which seems like a bad idea objectively, but that usually doesn't dissuade me. I enjoy life. Even though it can be pretty brutal sometimes, it is full of surprises.

My Interests

alphabetizing, art, barbeque, literature, philosophy, "politics", riding my bike, skateboarding, sponteneity, tattoos, urban planning, whiskey, writing, etc.

I'd like to meet:

Bands that I don't know or care about, people who are trying to sell me things, and women who want me to "check out their website". Sadly, I can't seem to find anyone like this on myspace.

Tisha Cambell, my dream girl.

So, I saw the movie 'Terminal' on TV the other day, the one where Tom Hanks is stuck in a NY airport for months and months because his fake country is having a civil war, etc. It must have lodged...

my new favorite quote

So I guess Mike Tyson just got busted with a bunch of cocaine, and when the police asked him about it he said, "Its my cocaine and I use it whenever I get my hands on it". I thought that in itself was...

things, as of late.

Thanks for all the job search advice. Sadly and predictably, I have found a job waiting tables at a cafe on navy pier - mentally and physically taxing, but financially acceptable, and ultimately toler...

please help

I am slowly coming to the realization that I'm going to have to get what folks call a "real" job this summer (as oppossed to teaching, fetching books from the library, etc.). I really did not want to ...

bird shit and bad luck

As soon as I got back to Chicago this week, a pigeon shat on my head. It pissed me off. Then my friend told me that more than one culture sees a bird shitting on your head as a sign of good luck....

RIP Stanley Williams

Did anybody really expect Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Terminator, to grant someone clemency? Just curious. Stanley "Tookie" Williams, founder of the Los Angeles Crips, was executed this morning. Y...

more spiritual guidance.

Now that I'm attending a Catholic school (I know, I'm not sure how it happened either) I figure I should supplement my previous comments on "new age" spirituality with some musings on its old-fashione...

spirituality...

is a sham. Not that old-fashioned god-fearing kind. That's a whole other can of worms, but at least it doesn't purport to be fashionable. I'm talking about "new age" spirituality. Most of it seems to ...

it's a slippery slope

As I was walking home from the grocery store today, a local sketchball asked me, "Hey man, wanna live forever?" Instinctively I responded, "No thanks." But immediately after I got home I thought, wai...

more things that annoy me.

The list is almost endless. I could just say "shopping" and be done with it: you know, the whole fetishization of the process of procuring goods and services that people (imagine they) need, as if th...
