About Me

Thirty11 is a group dedicated to writing music that touches people. We write songs mainly about people. People that mean something to us. Giving someone a song written about them for them as a gift is the ultimate compliment and an amazing gift you can give a person. Humans are wonderfully complex and writing about specific people gives an unlimited scope for inspiration. If you can describe a persons personality with a guitar riff or lyric you can touch them deeply on the inside. People matter, we want to touch people, including you!
We want our music to make people FEEL. The music we love to listen to moves us in some way. Whether it makes us angry, sad, energized, motivated or happy. Music must bypass the brain and touch your soul. We hope you feel lifted when you listen to these songs. We know they lifted the people they were written for. We hope you FEEL something when you hear our songs. We hope it inspires you to move closer to your Maker, to treat people selflessly and with kindness. We hope it helps you believe the best of everyone around you and act positively towards people, without cynicism or suspicion. We spend all our spare time writing because music moves us and we want to give our music to those that matter the most to us.
April Parnwell - Singer/Songwriter
April has been singing since she was a small child. Her parents were professional musicians whilst she was growing up and introduced her to the concepts of music and lifestyle of excellence that she now leads. One of her earliest memories is of her singing ABBA in the back seat of the car much to her parents amazement.
April has a powerful yet sweet voice which is able to carry a number of styles. She has an amazing sense of melody which enables her to dream up melodic lines which really get stuck in your mind.
Most of her public performance career has been spent singing in the church. This has given her exposure to crowds of up to 10,000 people and many differing styles which gives her a great ability in many different scenarios.
James Parnwell - Guitarist/Songwriter
James first picked up the guitar at the age of 15. His dad spent his last $170 on a second hand strat copy and James has been hooked ever since. His favourite guitarist is the Edge from U2. You may be able to hear his influence in James' playing. Other guitarist influences include Slash, Joe Satriani and John Petrucci.
James loves to put emotion into his guitar playing. Whilst he is very technical, he would rather send a shiver down your spine by playing the perfect note at the perfect time instead of playing a very fast, impressive, technical lick.
James has performed mostly in the church as well. This has allowed him to play around Australia and UK in front of audiences up to 10,000 people. His first choice is the electric guitar but also enjoys playing acoustic often with open tunings.

I am working on a new song tonight called Exist. I was just wondering if there is anything more frustrating after speding perhaps 100 hours on a song to decide, lets shift it down 2 semi-tones. That little statement costs me MANY hours. Anyway i must get back to suffering for my art ... lol

Its amazing what God can do in 24 hours. Truly amazing. To say i am speechless is an understatement.

Life has many beginnings, it also has endings. An era of my life ended last week and i couldn't be happier. There is a bitter sweetness knowing that it is finished forever. Now is the time for a new beginning. So i find myself in the curious position of being between and end and a beginning, a kind of limbo where nothing is happening. Whats more, I love this place, it won't last for long. So i guess i should just seize the day and make the most of it. I am sure there is a song in my experience, i hope i can get it out the way it is meant to sound.

If you will allow me I would like to brag about my kids a little.
Georgia is 6 and last night had her 4th singing lesson. At the end of the lesson the teacher told me how amazed she was at her pitch and her ability to remember the lyrics to the song she learnt which is quite long and wordy. She sings perfectly to a backing track and to my very biased dad ears sounds like angel. In fact her teacher said that she has students that are 12 which struggle with the song Georgia has just completed. We wrote the song Fly about her, have a listen to it if you get a chance and view a window into the soul of an amazing little kid.
Then there is Harry. He is 5 years old. If georgia's pitch is amazing harrys is downright incredible, i can honestly say i have never heard him hit a bum note and i have heard him sing since he was 2. The kid leaves me speechless. If only his parents could sing like him.
Who knows what the future is for these two but I realise that their prodigious talent will not be enough to make them successful, they also need strong character, perseverance and perhaps most importantly a deep love for God and people that makes them super attractive people, not just outside but most importantly on the inside. That is the challenge April and I face and it is a big one indeed.

We have written some of ours songs for our kids. Its so hard to get into words how much you love your kids. Mere words seem too one-dimensional and puny to encapsulate the massiveness of the feelings you feel for the little ones in your life. So writing a song somehow seems to get across the feelings you feel when you think about your kids. Music really does describe things that words can't. We are trying to say things with our music that can't be said with words alone. I hope you feel what we feel when you listen to our music.

It strange how the twists and turns of life bring you up against odds that once you could never face without breaking into pieces but now you swat away like a fly. As I grow I learn that I am stronger than I thought that Gods plan is working and the end will be better than the beginning. I may lose many battles, but the war ahs already been won. I hope my victory enables me to make the world a greater place, helps some people feel more valued. Ultimately i don't want my success to be for me but for others.

Today we did a photoshoot for our new myspace layout and EP Cover for our upcoming itunes release. Had loads of fun in the city taking photos and being silly. April had her mouth wide open for most of the shots which is nothing unusual. We got in trouble because James climbed up into a place he shouldn't have, but got the respect of the security guard who asked him to come down, he didn't know how the hell James got up there?!? His secret is that he is 10% goat.

A great big HELLO to all our UK friends. We have received so many wonderful comments from our friends in the United Kingdom. Thankyou so much for coming and having a listen to our music. April and I love England and really want to go back and take the kids. We have relatives all over the place so it would be great to go and play some music and catch up with the relo's.

Finally the breakthrough comes. We have been writing for three months and nothing has arrived that we liked. At last a concept has turned up on our doorstep that we like. The monkey is off our backs and we are writing again...
We hope to have it up on myspace soon for you to listen to.
