SCREEM THEATER

15 Year Anniversary

About Me

HI, I'm Kandie. I am a big fan of Brett Inman and his band SIGHT UNSEEN. After receiving Brett's box set, I asked if he would consider doing a fan or tribute page. I also do the bands fan page. SCREEM THEATER was the only band he would consider for the tribute page in honor of the death of James Branch. Here is what I know of the career of SCREEM THEATER. Dallas, Texas, Towards the middle of 1991. Brett Inman (vocals) had decided to leave his previous band PARAMOUR. Brett met guitarist Chris Stone, who auditioned for PARAMOUR, and the 2 hit it off immediately. Also leaving previous bands, RAGE OF ANGELS, were John Inman and James Branch. John had been talking with Brett about joining forces to create SCREEM THEATER (named by their guitar tech) for months before leaving ROA. This was before the famous band came out with the similar name and the guys didn't realize the SCREEM THEATER name had been a rip off. Brett found Lori Luman (bass) through a long time friend, Mechelle Murphy, and they all got together. Within a month, the band was out playing shows. They recorded a 2 song demo tape, which recieved radio airplay in the Dallas area. After spending alot of time building the band name and popularity, the band surfaced alot of internal turmoil. Lori Luman left the band and then came Gary Marx to fill the spot. The turmoil was still there and a few months later, (founding member) Brett also left to persue other avenues. The band stayed together for a few short months after being fronted by John. They never recorded any songs with John's vocals. Chris departed to explore another band with Brett. The band went on as a 3 piece for a couple of months and inevitably threw in the towel. A few years later, John and Brett re-recorded some of the songs that the band never did record, which appeared on Brett's first solo cd in 2001. In 2002, drummer James Branch was killed in an automobile accident while in the car with Chris Stone and James' wife. R.I.P James. Shortly after that, John approached Brett and Gary with some new information. James' last recording was a year earlier of one of Brett and John's songs from SCREEM THEATER called 'IT'S OVER'. The 3 of them commenced to finish the recording. WHERE ARE THEY NOW ? Brett Inman has a solo recording career as well as fronting the national band SIGHT UNSEEN. Chris Stone - ?, Lori Luman - ?, Gary Marx was doing building maintenance in 2002, and James Branch is deceased. Also, important to note, the band met a young photographer who became an instrumental part in their lives and they began to use him exclusively. Randy Perry went on to become one of the best band photographers in the Dallas area. He photographed many bands they were in after this one and also plenty of other bands, as well.
