Never Enough Hope

There is Hope for California, may 8, 9, 10.

About Me

Never Enough Hope is a very large ensemble put together every so often by Toby Summerfield. The first never enough hope performances were in 2005, at Open End and at The hungry brain. The piece, also titled "never enough hope" is their debut recording. Their hope is to be able to perform more regularly than every two years. The inspiration and motiviation behind this band is to celebrate the friendship and community particular to musicians and music lovers. It is the sound of a bunch of friends singing together, happy to be around each other, doing what they love.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gift_economy
Band Members: Current. Dina Maccabee, Sara Jo Zaharako, Amy Cimini, Kevin Davis, Eric Perney, Lili Wosko, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Hanna Mathey, Jaimie Branch, Brian Lipson, Aram Shelton, Stuart Bogie, Matt Bauder, Caroline Davis, Dave Rempis, Keefe Jackson, Tim Haldeman, Dan Bennett, Colin Stetson, Tim Brown, Dan Sylvester, Katie Wiegman, Nathaniel Braddock, Josh Tillinghast, Marc Riordan, Patrick Farrell, Jason Ajemian, Frank Rosaly, Tim Strand, Toby Summerfield. Emeritus, in spirit etc.; Brian Dibblee, Tim Daisy, Jason Adaisiewicz.
Influences: "The most inspiration I get is from the members of the band. Of course there's a lot of music I love, but I am most energized by my friends and colleagues."
Sounds Like: Quotes from Hopeweek '07. In no particular order, and no implied relevance. Rhetorical. Occasionally Paraphrased. "It sounds like you ate Sun Ra, after he ate Charles Ives." "With an lineup like that, it must just sound like everything." "West Coast." "There is no 'B' section. Theres just 'A prime,' 'A prime prime,' 'A prime prime prime.'" "I think I have had an increase in hope as a result of attending..." "i am humbled and honored to have been a part of it all." "...compositions very moving, exciting, and inspirational." "Better than last time." "I think this is what Debussy's Orchestra was like, 100 years ago. Music out of sync with its contemporaries, an orchestra assembled not for the sake of virtuosity, but because he wanted these particular people playing his music, playing their particular parts." "You're the best, around! Nothing's ever gonna keep you down." "Kisses all around" "...the real surprising thing was that you managed to balance a band that had six loud-ass saxophone players in it - a feat for sure..." "Waist Gunner." "I haven't been able, nor have i wanted, to get that beautiful music out of my head." "Can I shake your hand, or give you a hug?" Toby thinks it sounds like, "we're gonna get the guy." Then, "we've almost got the guy." And finally, "we got the guy."
