About Me
1. Who is D.G.I.?
D.G.I. is a rock-band which began in June 2005, and was formed by 3 people:
Davide Sgualdini (drums & keyboards), Gianluca Menchi (bass guitar), Ivan Sgualdini (rhythm and lead guitars).
2. The story of D.G.I.
During the summer of 2002, two brothers who have a true passion for music, decided to form a band with an old friend, to play cover songs and to compose some original music. The band went nowhere, but after a few meetings, they succeeded in composing some parts of songs. After a couple of years, Davide finally decided to finish those songs. He organized a little home-recording studio where he recorded the tracks for what are the 3 first D.G.I.’s songs.
Thanks to this experience, Davide, Gianluca and Ivan, realized how great their musical affinity was, and during the summer of 2005 they decided to officially form the band D.G.I., with the intention of composing music together.
3. What kind of music D.G.I. play?
All kinds and no kind. The members of the band have influences coming from most of the musical genres, and because of that they’ve decided to freely follow their artistic inspiration without letting any ideals or commercial rules stop it.
To make a few examples of the mix that can be found in their productions, these bands/operas can be cited: Ajren Lucassen, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, AC/DC, Ugly Kid Joe, Metallica, Scorpions, Pantera, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Helloween, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Type O Negative, Depeche Mode, Faith No More, Dream Theater, Green Day, The Fuzztones, Jesus Christ Superstar, Aretha Franklin, Blues Brothers, No Doubt, H.I.M., Sepultura.
As it’s clear, heavy-metal and hard-rock are the major influences for the band, but this doesn’t stop D.G.I. from adding totally different genres like jazz or blues, even inside the same song.
4. How does D.G.I. compose?
Experimentation takes the primary role in the compositions of D.G.I..
The band’s songs usually come up from little ideas that the members show one another during the meetings in their recording studio. Following the motto “all kinds and no kindâ€, everybody applies their influences without any prejudices, researching a product which has some innovative elements, for example using unusual musical instruments together with the classic and rock ones, or trying to put together different kinds of music often using totally different voices.
Once the base of song is ready, the band uses the collaboration of other musicians to complete the recordings.
5. Band’s objectives
The primary objective for the band is to give vent to their own musical creativity.
Following a common guideline the various inspirations converge in a single project that once completed, will come out as a full featured album. This is the example of Checkmate, first D.G.I.’s rock opera, a current work in progress.
6. Is it possible to collaborate with D.G.I.?
Yes of course! The band is always researching new talents who can give their contribution for the D.G.I.’s productions.
Currently the band is already using some trustworthy musicians, like for example the emergent singer Matt Steel to who gives also compositions of several lyrics and melodies, and other singers and musicians to who gives lesser assignments.
