I'm a saxophonist, originally from KL, Malaysia, but now based Bangkok, into anything, from classical, contemporary, experimental, avant garde, jazz...At the same time, i'm also a learning conductor, concentrate more in the wind instrument site... Of course, i would like to try out anything, if i'm given a chance to do so!Here is my profile:Chee Meng is the conductor and concert master of the Thailand Saxophone Ensemble. In addition to that, he also performs with the Mahidol Saxophone Quartet, Mahidol Wind Camerata, Mahidol Jazz Big Band, Malaysia’s National Symphony Orchestra, Radio Television Malaysia Orchestra, Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra, PJ Youth Symphonic Band, Emergency Break Ensemble, Greg Lyon’s Nonet, and also the MBSA orchestra. He is the co-founder for the Birdo Saxophone Quartet and the J-J Ensemble back in his country, Malaysia.Chee Meng represented Malaysia in the 7th Japan International Youth Musicale at Shizuoka, Japan in July 2003, the 1st SAYOWE (Southeast Asian Youth Wind Ensemble) tour in September 2003, under the baton of Maestro Eugene Migliaro Corporon, and the 2nd SAYOWE in October 2004, under the baton of George Wiegel. He also represented Malaysia in the 5th Asean Youth Culture Camp in January 2004 and as an artist for the 2004 Thailand International Saxophone Conference. At July 2005, he was selected to participate in the International Youth Wind Orchestra, WASBE 2005, under the baton of Felix Hauswirth and Yasuhide Ito. Recently, he participated in the 14th World Saxophone Congress at Slovenia, where he premiered some new works with the Mahidol Saxophone Quartet and the Thailand Saxophone Ensemble.Chee Meng is a graduate from College of Music, Mahidol University, under the Master of Arts, performance program. He was the recipient of the College of Music’s scholarship, and served as the teaching assistant. He studied under Greg Lyons, Raymond Kong, Shyen Lee and has attended master classes by Jean Marie-Londeix, Eugene Rousseau, Roger Greenberg, John Sampen, William Street, Eric Nestler, Carina Rascher, Nobuya Sugawa and also Kenneth-Tze. At the same time he has studied conducting with Shuichi Komiyama, and also attended the 1st INTERASIA Conductors’ Symposium, under the tutelage of Dr. James McRoy.Other than his performing experience, Chee Meng served as the band manager for the PJ Youth Symphonic Band from year 2002 till 2006. In year 2002, he was selected to be the President for the newly formed Student Council, Music Department, University Putra Malaysia. Chee Meng is the head of student staff in the 2005 Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble project, and also the staff in the International Trumpet Guild 2005 in Thailand. He also worked as the organizing committee for the Thailand International Saxophone Composition Competition, and operation manager for the Thailand Saxophone Ensemble, to participate in 2006 World Saxophone Congress at Slovenia. Recently he just finished his appointment as the Assistant for the Project Manager, Southeast Asian Youth Wind Ensemble and Orchestra 2006. His participation in the Southeast Asian Youth Project has gained him experience as an ensemble manager, to assist conductors such as Allan McMurray, Christoph Wyneken and also Jerry Junkin.Currently he serves as the instructor for the College of Music, Mahidol University. Chee Meng also works on the organizing committee for the 2nd Jean Marie-Londeix International Saxophone Competition and the Bangkok World Saxophone Congress 2009. Chee Meng is a member of the International Committee, World Saxophone Congress.
