Jeryl was born Jeryl Joyce Orsino in Englewood, New Jersey, but was raised all over the US by her Mom Terri. Jeryl's Dad was a Pro baseball player for the Baltimore Oriels so they traveled a lot when Jeryl was little. Jeryl has a brother named Jay (John Joseph Orsino II). She and Jay grew up in River Edge, NJ and were students at River Dell High School in Oradell, NJ. Jay and Jeryl grew up listening to top 40 radio but as they got more versed in new music; they started listening to The Cure, The Church, The Police, Morrissey, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and basically went to "Rock School" by checking out all these great bands. They turned their detached garage into a rehearsal studio and spent many nights in there learning all the cover tunes of their favorite bands and annoying the neighbors. Jeryl played Bass and Jay played guitar and sang. . Drummers came and went but Jeryl's love for playing continued. She wanted to start writing her own music and bought her first acoustic guitar and a 4 track recorder. Knowing not how to use either she bought the tablature for The Counting Crowsâ€August and Everything After†and started teaching herself how to play the new guitar.
Once Jeryl started performing live she formed a band and played all the great local venues in the Tri State area. NYC was the bands stomping ground for a long time. In 2000 Jeryl landed a production deal with producer Jim Ebert and went to Falls Church Va. to record a 4 song EP. One of those songs called “I Told You So†was written by Butch Walker. Jeryl has always been a huge fan of the Marvelous 3 and Butch. The EP opened many doors for her and the band. Jeryl's band FROM THE DESK OF SALLY won the CABO WABO BATTLE OF THE BANDS @ NYC’s Hard Rock Café and were a finalist on NYC’s number 1 radio stations “Z 100’s RADIO STAR†Contest. Over the years Jeryl has written songs for THE SONGS OF LOVE FOUNDATION and a documentary that aired nationally on PBS called “SENTENCING THE VICTIM†( www.sentencingthevictim.com ) Recently Jeryl’s song “Stupid†was released on the first season DVD of MTV’s LAGUNA BEACH. Jeryl has appeared on New Jerseys Uncle Floyd Show and performed live on many local radio stations.
Jeryl’s new release “Radio Friendly†is going to be ready for purchase soon. Live, work, play, Play music…that is what Jeryl does best. She is true to her music and herself. The music has been the soundtrack to her listeners’ life. They writing is her life experience and every song has a story behind it. Indie music is a live and thriving and Jeryl is an excellent example of that.
