In the summer of 2006, four young musicians joined forces to create the band of their dreams – a group of improvisers playing original songs that know no stylistic boundaries.Drummer and singer Cove Jasmin is the backbone of the group with grooves inspired by the music of John Scofield, James Brown, Bob Marley and Afro-Cuban percussion alike.Guitarist and singer Owen Ross carries on the torch of classics like The Beatles, Sly Stone, BB King and Stevie Wonder.Saxophonist and backup vocalist Taylor Herron brings eclectic jazz and modern textures into the mix inspired by John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Radiohead.Bass player and backup vocalist Kevin McAuliffe anchors the group with his schizophrenic mix of highbrow jazz and low-down funk, influenced by contemporary masters like Jaco Pastorious and Victor Wooten.Sky Moose makes people feel good! Our music gets people up on their feet, dancing and grooving, and if they’re sitting, they know they’re listening to a unique moment of improvisational music. We love playing and it shows. The only thing we love more than playing our music is sharing it with an audience. We write a broad range of material from funk and soul to reggae, jazz, blues, salsa and rock and roll. You can listen to a few of them here on this page. We’re not a cover band, but when we do play someone else’s tune, we do it in our own special way.Our audiences love what we do. We’ve played gigs including the 2006 River City Roots Festival (under our old name ‘The Department of the Interior’), Jazzoula 2007, the Tuesday at Twelve concert series in Hamilton, Lifeline Farms Annual Party, the Garden City Harvest Party at PEAS farm in the summer of 2007, and frequent appearances at the Bitter Root Brewery and the Banque Club in Hamilton. Everywhere we’ve played, people have been wildly enthusiastic about our music.
