Born on February 25, 1982 in one of the strictest Mormon communities around, Bert had a happy home life as a child. But as he grew into a teenager his and his parents views conflicted. Bert began getting into the local music scene, originally singing for I'm With Stupid as well as other bands. He was part of the Straight Edge community and frequented hardcore shows in the Utah valley area. His home life became strained at this time and Bert broke away at 16 by dropping out of high school and leaving home when he became a drug addict. He went to jail on charges of posession. When the rest of the band (Quinn, Jeph and Branden) were looking for a singer, someone remembered Bert and they called him. Bert was still heavily into drugs, and was still going to Narcotics Anonymous. Bert got clean and, after their first show in January 2001, they were discovered by John Feldmann and signed to Reprise Records. After, they released their debut self titled album in 2002.

Quinn Allman (Guitar)

Born January 18, 1982 in Orem, Utah, is the guitarist in the punk rock/post hardcore/screamo band The Used. Allman grew up in Orem, Utah. At a young age, Quinn started playing in bands. His first band was a band called "Hey Santos!". At age 15, he became a member of The Used, influenced by bands such as Face to Face, Goldfinger, Thursday, Kenna, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, and New Transit Direction. and he loves the ladies... Quinn passed the time with petty theft and panhandling. He has been described by bandmates as "the nutty kid who eat his own boogers and doesn't wash his hands ever" and all bandmates share the thought that he is a very comical individual. Singer Bert McCracken of The Used describes him as a "truly spiritual and warm" individual. In late 2003, Quinn was arrested outside of his own tour bus for opposing an officer who was forcing fans off of the property. "When he arrived at the Jacksonville jail, he said he was made to strip and treated like a hardened criminal...'They didn't even let me make a phone call. It's fuckin' wrong. It's inhumane.'" His mistreatment at the Jacksonville jail hints at his commitment to his fans and to his music. Alongside The Used, Quinn has a side project entitled "Evaline," which is playing at Taste Of Chaos 2007

Jepha Howard was born on January 4, 1979. A common nickname of his is Jepha. Howard began playing bass when his childhood friend Korby Connell played guitar. Jepha figured that if Korby played guitar, he must pick up bass. Prior to Bert joining The Used, Jepha was the singer, but he prefers to play bass. Jepha listens to all kinds of music - he likes everything from "noise & super screamy metal to hip hop." He believes that this is partly because his father would play records for him growing up. Jeph lives a veggie lifestyle, and is featured on their "Save #99" Dvd. He does, however, drink alcohol in moderation, & thus he travels on The Used's "Party Bus" periodically

Dan began playing drums when he was 14. “I remember my dad bought me a drum set one year for Christmas,” he says. And from there, his passion for the drums took off. Dan takes his cues from the greats like John Bonham, Keith Moon and Mitch Mitchell, but he also has a big place in his heart for drummers like Peter Moffett (Wool, Government Issue, Burning Airlines) and Darren Zentek (Kerosene 454), whose contributions to post-hardcore, though short, were as important as their rock forefathers. Dan’s playing style reflects his inspiration, complementing them by utilizing their ‘big’ rock pummeling sound, while accenting and adding his own bit of flair to the band’s songs. He truly shines on the entire album but most notably on the track, “Three Word Distrust.” Dan comes from a musical family, so it’s no surprise he began playing an instrument—except that the instrument happened to be the drums. “I play a little guitar, but that’s just because my whole family plays guitar, and I picked it up from being around them. [I didn’t play it] in any bands or anything like that though. Mainly just drums.” Dan was involved with school music briefly, and though it was short, he learned things that he would take with him and still uses to this day. “I took snare drum lessons in seventh grade. I learned how to hold my sticks, learned stick technique. I still do the same warm-ups that the teacher had us do. I still do those to this day. It helped me out and really opened the door to new ideas.” Dan met Levi in the same period of time he began playing drums. They were—and have been—in bands together ever since. “We’ve been in a few bands together. And one day he just called me up and said he met these two guys from Pennsylvania, and [he] said, ‘We’ve got to meet up with these guys and play together.’ And we’ve been a band now for about four years.”
