-Bert was born in Provo, Utah, USA and raised in a Mormon family during his youth. He was inspired by Michael Jackson to become a singer at a young age. He also attended High School with bandmember Quinn Allman, before dropping out. Before joining The Used, he played the trumpet in a local band in his hometown. Wanting to seek new musical options, he auditioned for a band in his hometown who needed a singer. After his audition, Quinn Allman, Jeph Howard and Branden Steineckert asked him to join. He was so involved, he hitchhiked to band practice. His parents kicked him out of the house because he rebelled against his Mormon upbringing, and he lived with Quinn and his parents for a while, before their band became successful. By age 17 he was addicted to crystal meth. However, he was able to overcome it with his bandmates' support. Addiction continued to follow him. According to an interview, he used to drink up to 2 bottles of Jack Daniels daily. Constant touring and alcoholism didn't mix well and while touring for The Used's self titled album, he collapsed. After consulting several doctors he was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, a severe inflammation of the pancreas caused by autodigestion of pancreatic tissue by its own enzymes. The condition most often stems from alcohol abuse or gallstones.

-Jeph Howard began playing bass when his childhood friend Korby Connell played guitar. Jeph figured that if Korby played guitar, he must pick up bass. Prior to Bert joining The Used, Jeph was the singer, but he prefers to play bass. Howard is an only child, and in one time in his life, was a boyscout. Before The Used became signed to Reprise Records, he worked as a cook and baker at Prestwich Farms in Orem, Utah. At the start of the band, Howard had dreadlocks that producer, John Feldmann, liked to say looked almost like "poo".HIS TATTOOS He has a tattoo of an angel on the right side of his neck and a devil tattooed on the left side of his neck with the word luck tattooed between them on the back of his neck. He says he believes it's the only way to get through both of them. He also has a typewriter on his stomach, a unicorn on his left thigh and when he joins both hands up, a dagger is made. He has many more tattoos. His first tattoo was a lightning bolt on either side of his middle finger on his left hand. Howard also has fifteen piercings, including a penis piercing - a Prince Albert, snakebites, and his tongue.

-Quinn Allman, guitarist of the Used.Quinn grew up in Utah. Quinn is the funny, crazy type of guy. He describes himself as generous, colorful, passionate, creative and insecure. Growing up, Quinn was very shy and argued with his teachers in high school a lot. The first sport he was ever into was Baseball, he was a shortstop. At a very young age, Quinn started being in bands. His first band was a band called "Hey Santos!". At age 15, he became a member of The Used, drawing influences from bands such as Face to Face, Golfinger, Thursday, Kenna, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World and one of his favorites, New Transit Direction. He also currently listens to bands like The Killers and The Mars Volta. Before they even got a chance to be signed, which would be years later, Quinn worked a few jobs. His very first job was at Arbyâ€™s. His last job, before the band got signed, was at a golf course. Quinn actually liked this job a bit. He got to get up early, and mow the lawn while blasting his favorite music and watching the sunset. Of course, nothing could be better to him than getting a record deal. After getting a deal, Quinn still loves film, music, and collecting old bicycles. Quinn had written the song, On My Own and came up with the video concept idea for All That Iâ€™ve Got. He has also gone through quite a few arrests, one being for no good reason in Florida. Cops say it was for 'trespassing'. His first arrest was for stealing. Quinn has stolen quite a bit. But he has also felt very secure with everything in his life, and taken up drugs. He currently uses Gibson SG's as his main stage and recording guitars. His most notable SG is a black Gibson SG Standard. He likes to be behind the camera and helped film part of The Used's DVD for the making of Lies for the Liars. Quinn also helped produce a CD for the band Evaline[1], a band on the 2007 Taste of Chaos and Warped Tours.

-Dan has played with New Transit Direction for about seven years.
-He began playing drums when he was 14.
-Dan replaced former drummer and founder of the band Branden Steineckert who was kicked out of the band in the summer of 2006. Dan has played with New Transit Direction for about seven years.Dan began playing drums when he was 14. â€œI remember my dad bought me a drum set one year for Christmas,â€ he says. And from there, his passion for the drums took off. Dan takes his cues from the greats like John Bonham, Keith Moon, Eddie Shore, and Mitch Mitchell, but he also has a big place in his heart for drummers like Peter Moffett (Wool, Government Issue, Burning Airlines) and Darren Zentek (Kerosene 454). He often signs things "Dan Rules" as opposed to "Dan Whitesides". "I play a little guitar, but thatâ€™s just because my whole family plays guitar, and I picked it up from being around them. [I didnâ€™t play it] in any bands or anything like that though. Mainly just drums". Dan was involved with school music briefly. â€œI took snare drum lessons in seventh grade. I learned how to hold my sticks, learned stick technique. I still do the same warm-ups that the teacher had us do. I still do those to this day. It helped me out and really opened the door to new ideas.â€

The Used formed under the name Strange Itch in 1994, the band consisted of Jeph Howard, Bert McCracken, Quinn Allman, and Matt Brown. The band put out one self titled album in 1998 and lasted until Quinn Allman took over the guitar in 1999 and at this point Strange Itch changed its name to Dumb Luck. In 2000, an EP called The Naked Truth was released. Not long after the release, there was another line up change as Howard moved to bass and Bert McCracken took over the vocals. Dumb Luck was short-lived and the band changed its name to Used when Bert came into the line up. At that point in time, Drummer Steineckert sent their songs to producer John Feldman from the punk group Goldfinger. After he heard "A Box Full of Sharp Objects" he called them in for a demo. In 2001, the band finished the demo and he got them signed to Reprise Records all within a few months of meeting them. In 2002, the band underwent another name change, as it was discovered a Boston band had already trademarked the name "Used" years earlier. It was then changed to The Used, since then The Used have released three studio albums: The Used (Platinum), In Love and Death (Multi-Platinum), and Lies for the Liars (241,000+ as of early september).Also Bert wrote the song hard to say about Kate and the song blue and yellow is about him and quinns breaking friendship.
