Born in Barcelona, Spain, 1958
1965.- He starts playing guitar and singing.
1972.- He forms his first band, "Fuego!", with school mates Jordi Bonell and Andreu Simón.
1975.- Solfeggio and piano at the "Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona". Performing with "Fuego!".
1978.- He joints "Arsenik Band", a rythm'n'blues band with original songs. Backing the gypsy singer Chango in Madrid, where he meets Lola Flores and Moncho. He joints "Raïm", a fussion band with Toni Saigi "Chupi", Alberto Magnone, Beto Baiano, Jacint Bonell and Rubén Griñant.
1979.- Militar service in Alicante.
1980.- Rejoining "Arsenik Band". T.V. programs ( Musical Express, Gent d'aquÃ...) and performances at "Karma", "L'Angelot", "Magic"...
1981.- Supporting band for JOE COCKER. Starts studying at the "Taller de Músics de Barcelona" guitar, combo, harmony. Jazz seminaires with Steve Brown, Claudio Roditti, Dave Shnitter. Playing and recording with funky music band "Atlanta".
1982.- Award for the best original music in the short film "Barbara Weil : Art in Motion" at the Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián.
1983.- He travels to the U.S.A. Guitar lessons with John Abercrombie. Visiting jazz clubs and meeting musicians like Gil Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, Mark Egan, Bob Moses...
Working for the summer in Salou with the band "Tucano".
1984.- He joints "Orquesta Encantada" and starts the brazilian & jazz quintet "Take Five" with Carme Canela, David Xirgu, Ramón GarcÃa and Xavier Llandrich. Guitar lessons with Sean Levitt.
1985.- Peforming around Spain with "Orquesta Encantada" and "Take Five". Recording with Gato Pérez. He finishes the career at the "Taller de Músics" and starts teaching guitar and combo.
1986.- In Ibiza for six months, playing top 40's with "Joe Garrigó & Co.". In Casablanca for three months, with "Mapache band".
1987.- Performing and recording with "Bocanegra". Best catalan C.D. of the year.He starts the fussion band "Box Office", with Dave Pybus, Julian Vaughan, Albert Bover and Steve Deswart. Playing and recording with Pau Riba. Playing with The Driffters. Jazz seminaire with Quest.
1988.- Working with his own jazz trÃo, "Joan Vinyals TrÃo", with Julian Vaughan and Jordi Gaspar. Recording with the salsa band "Caramba". Performing with "Box Office". Jazz seminaire with Marc Johnson. Composing and recording the music for the theatre play "Danny and Roberta" by John Patrick Shelly with the band"Bocanegra". Creating, recording and performing sound effects for the theatre play "Black man and dogs fight" by Koltés.
1989.- Performing with "Bocanegra" and "Box Office". Musical production for the C.D. of the band "Brighton 64". Re-starts the band "Fuego!" with drummer Enric "Nota" Parés and bassist Sintu Bonell. Recording with "Fuego!", a C.D. with original songs in the rock-reggae-funk style. Performing at the "John Lennon memorial Festival", backing artists such as RamoncÃn, Luz Casal, Rebeldes, Yoko Ono...
Performing and recording with the avangarde group "Zé Eduardo Unit".
Award at a demo contests Adagio with an original composition.
Jazz seminaire with Quest ( Dave Liebman, Billy Hart, Ron McClure and Richie Beirach ).
1990.- Performances and T.V. shows with "Fuego!", "Box Office", "Joan Vinyals TrÃo", "Zé Eduardo Unit". Performances with "Harmónica Zummel Blues Band". Musical production for the african band "Shongai". T.V. with Pau Riba.
1991.- Performances with "Fuego!", "Box Office" "Harmónica Zummel Blues Band", Louisiana Red, Johnny Mars, Carme Canela. Musical Production for spanish radical rock "Platero y Tú". Composing and producing music for a cartoon called "Esepesitos". Starts his colaboration with english singer-composer Alex Warner.
1992.- Peforming with "Fuego!", "Box Office", "Joan Vinyals TrÃo", Alex Warner, "Mapache", Carme Canela, Freddy "Fingers"Lee. Recording guitars for various rock groups in Spain ( Brams, Ocults, Matamala...)
1993.- Performing with "Big Mamma Montse", "Box Office", "Mapache". Recording live with "Fuego!" a C.D. with original material, called "Let's Play The Blues", with guest stars like Dani Nel.lo, Big Mamma, Carme Canela. Starts the duet Cece Giannotti & Joan Vinyals, two voices and two acoustic guitars. Joints the band "Estamos Reunidas", with leaders and singers Carme Canela & Laura Simó.
1994.- Peforming with "Estamos Reunidas", "Fuego!", "Ia i Batiste", Carme Canela Quintet, Giannotti-Vinyals, Pau Riba, Laura Simó, "CompanyÃa Elèctrica Dharma"for the 20th aniversary of the band concert at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona before 18.000 people, performing with artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat,Toti Soler, Mª del Mar Bonet, Pascal Comedale...Recording with "CompanyÃa Elèctrica Dharma"
1995.- Performing with "CompanyÃa Elèctrica Dharma", "Fuego!", Laura Simó, "Estamos Reunidas". Recording with Ia i Batiste. Starts rehearsing the musical play Hair where he plays the starring roll.
1996.- Premiere of "Hair", where Joan plays "Berger"(more than 100 performances).Performing with "Estamos Reunidas", "Fuego!", "CompanyÃa Elèctrica Dharma"(recording of a C.D.)
Production, arrangements and recording of the C.D. "The Best Is Yet To Come", by "Laura Simó Sextet". Performing with Giannotti-Vinyals.
1997.- Performing with Giannoti-Vinyals, "Estamos Reunidas", "Laura Simó Sextet", "CompanyÃa Elèctrica Dharma", "Fuego!".Translator at the master class by John Abercrombie and Vince Mendoza.Composition and recording of the music for a T.V. movie "Primera Jugada".Performing with the Jazz Big Band of Barcelona.
1998.- Performing with "Fuego!", "Estamos Reunidas", Giannotti-Vinyals, "CompanyÃa Elèctrica Dharma".Composition and recording of the mjusic for T.V. movie "Pirata". Recording vocals for the spanish version of "The Magic Sword" (FOX).Starts the quintet "Guitarras Mestizas" with Max Sunyer, Santi Picó, Juan Gómez "Chicuelo" and David Palau. Recording a C.D. with this quintet. Production and recording of the C.D. "Laura Simó de Cine: My Favourite Things" by Laura Simó. Performing at the Persian Gulf (Bahrain) with Laura Simó. Production of the show "Laura Simó sings Stevie Wonder".
1999.- Performing with Giannotti-Vinyals, "Guitarras Mestizas". Conducting a T.V. band for a talking-show propram "Ja Hi Som!".Performing with the show "Laura Simó de Cine", "Laura Simó Sextet", "Fuego!". Singing for the character "Lesquelet" of the animation series "The Iris Professor"produced in Canada (catalan version). Conductin the band of Roque Narvaja.
Organizing blues jam sesions in "Savannah Club". President of the "Jazz and Modern Music Musicians Association of Catalunya".
2000.- President of the Associació de Músics de Jaz i Música Moderna de Catalunya (MJM) .Recording the second double C.D. of "Guitarras Mestizas", "Delta 2000". Co-producing and playing guitar on Alex Warner record "Time for Life". Playing with the Ensemble de Bellaterra conducted by Eladio Reinón for the show of Laura Simó "Canciones de Cine Europeo", with arrangements of Joan Albert Amargós, Josep Mª Durán, Sergi Vergés, among others, presented at the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona. Travelling to Seoul (South Corea) performing with Laura Simó. Performing with his different bands.
2001.- Artistic advisor, guitar player and singer for the show "Pop-Rock a Prop", that brings the modern music history to the schools performing at the Palau de la Música . Performing with Laura Simó, and sets up the band "Joan Vinyals: P.E.S.", with whom travels to Alba (Italiy) performing at the Festival Homenaje a Bob Dylan for the 60th anniversary of Bob Dylan. Performing on TV2 late show "La Noche Abierta", conducted by Pedro RuÃz. Performing as solo artist at the Festival de Blues y Gospel in Roses (Girona). Performing with the show "DE CINE" all over Spain. Perfroming with "Guitarras Mestizas" at the Ébora Festival (Portugal). Performing at the Festival de Jazz de Girona. Performing with Cece Giannotti at Harlem Jazz Club in Barcelona. Conducting the band at the "late show" of TV3 (Televisió de Catalunya) " Set de Nit", conducted and presented by Toni Solé, broadcasting from monday until friday from september 2001 until may 2002.
2002.- Performing at "Set de Nit" until may. Recording the C.D. "Open Arms" with Cece Giannotti, presenting the record next july at the "Harlem Jazz Club" in Barcelona. Working as president of MJM. Guitars and background vocals for the new C.D. by Mojinos EscocÃos. Guitars for the new C.D. by Guillermina Mota. Touring around Catalunya with the show: "LAURA SIMÓ & ENSEMBLE DE BELLATERRA: Songs from European Cinema". The tour ends at L'ESPAI DE MÚSICA I DANSA DE LA GENERALITAT DE CATALUNYA where they make a live record. Performing with "OPEN ARMS" at "Harlem Jazz Club" and "Sala B" in Barcelona.
2003.- Performances at the Palau dde la Música in Barcelona with the show for schools "Rock a Prop". Performances with VÃctor Obiols with thw show "Quadern de LÃrica Dura", poems by Pepe Sales with music by VÃctor Obiols. Performing with "OPEN ARMS" at "Harlem Jazz Club" and "Sala B" in Barcelona.Performing with P.E.S. Guitar player in the "aturem la guerra" band, at the macroconcert "Donem una oportunitat a la pau" in Barcelona, playing with artists such as Javier Gurruchaga, Paco Ibañez, Nass Marrakech, Quico Pi de la Serra, Marina Rossell, LuÃs Pastor, Jabier Muguruza, in front of more than 30.000 people. Continues working as President of the "Associació de Músics de Jazz i Música Moderna de Catalunya". The new C.D. of Laura Simó & Ensemble de Bellaterra, "Senza Fine", is released by Satchmo Records; Joan Vinyals is credited as music producer.
2004.- Perfomances at Palau de la Música de Barcelona with the show for schools "Rock a Prop";guitar player on the new album by Alex Warner; performances with OPEN ARMS; performances with Laura Simó; performances with Cece Giannotti, Hernán Flores and Enric "Nota" Parés, with whom he records in Barcelona his new C.D., "Vil·la Blauet".
2005.- "Vil·la Blauet" live at Luz de Gas de Barcelona, a big succes in critics and audiences. Performances at Palau de la Música de Barcelona with the show for schools "Rock a Prop". Performances with OPen Arms at Luz de Gas and harlem Jazz Club in Barcelona. Performances with Laura SImó. Recording the album "Bloc de lÃrica dura" by VÃctor Bocanegra; presentation of this record at "L'Espai" in Barcelona. He wins the award as Best Artist of the year in pop-rock, given by the Managers Association of Catalunya (ARC). He travels to Luxembourg to play a bolero's concert with LAURA SIMÓ and GUILLERMO PRATS. Concerts with the Symphonic Orquestra of Barcelona and Nacional of Catalonia at the AUDITORI (BCN), playing Nino Rota's music.
2006.- Performances at EL PALAU DE LA MÚSICA" with the show "ROCK A PROP". Performances at Luz de Gas and Harlem Jazz Club with OPEN ARMS. Performances with the new show by LAURA SIMÓ, "songwriter's music of the 80's" and "DE CINE". Conference about BOB MARLEY at "Obra Social La Caixa" in LLEIDA. Performances with VÃCTOR BOCANEGRA New project, DELTA POWER TRIO, with Ignasi Zamora on bass and David Gómez on drums. First show at Harlem Jazz Club, with Pol Borrà s scenery. Show in Müunster (Deustchland) with Alex Warner and Cristo Fontecilla, presenting Alex Warner's C.D., "Uncut Diamond"
2007.- Recording with DELTA. Performing around Catalunya with DELTA; "Ressons" tour with OPEN ARMS; performing at "Luz de Gas" with OPEN ARMS & rythm section. Performing with Laura Simó. Performing in England with Alex Warner and Cristo Fontecilla. Recording of Alex Warner's third C.D., "Green to Blue". Performing with VÃctor Bocanegra; pre-production of Vicror Bocanegra's new C.D. Guitar teacher at Taller de Músics in Barcelona and L'escola Municipal de Música in l'Atmella del Vallès. Recording with OPEN ARMS a new duet C.D.
