I am 35 years old, married and living in Joliet, IL. I am born and raised in church and love Gospel music. When I moved to Illinois in 2002, I had found out that my mother was diagnosed with a debilitating, life-threatening illness called, Breast Cancer. I was really close with my mother and was able to talk to her about anything-I do mean anything. I always kept in contact with her. One day she called my job, it was a Wednesday, and told me that I was the first person out of 4 siblings that she was calling. She said, "I need to see you all this weekend." Of course I asked her what was wrong, she said, "I am tired of being in pain and I am ready to go." I immediately broke down, and said, "mom don't do this to me I need you." I did make it N.Y. to see her and the doctors had on a breathing tube. She had one collapsed lung that was not functioning and the other was filled with fluid. My mom had told me that she had several outer body experiences and she was in heaven with her mother and father and people that she knew. She was sitting on her fathers lap and she said that it was peaceful and she didn't want to leave. At that time a minister that she knew had passed by and said to her father, "what is she doing here?" Her father said, "she is in so much pain." The minister then said, "she has to go back, it's not her time yet?" When she returned from that experience, she said, "I'm ready to go home." We were all standing around her hospital bed and said to her, you can't go back to the house yet mom until the doctors release you. She said, no... I mean heaven! To make a long story short, my mother left this old world, May 18, 2004 at the age of 53. Before she left this world, I told her in the hospital that I was going to start an organization, to raise money, so that I can help others who have cancer, with their overwhelming medical bills, treaments and medication. I told my mom that she would be the first recipient. She never made it to be the first recipient. The organization's name is "Support LIFE" and the acronym for life is - Luvernia's Initiative For cancer Education", in honor of my mother. Since 2004, we have helped over two thousand recipients and the number continues to increase. In February-2005, we became nationwide and have received a litany of calls anywhere from New York, Texas, Peru, Canada, California, and so on. We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization(meaning: all funds donated is tax deductible) and we work very close with NorthWestern Hospital, American Cancer Society, Patient Advocate Foundation, Area 5 Agency on Aging, along with others.
Our website is...www.support-Life.us/ Every year, we hold a Gospel Charity Concert for those whose health is disrupted by cancer and fighting for life. It is always in the month of May, around the time that my mother left this old world. This is done annually because different recording artist that have performed to help raise funds for those with cancer requested that, we make this an annual event. So we have! I do look forward to hearing from you all, and I pray that God continues to bless you as well as your family.
