Having played in bands for years in Portland and Seattle during the 90's, Mark Walker relocated to NYC in 2003, where he completed his first solo album, 'Dysfunctional Illaureate.' His 2nd album 'Joybomb' has just been completed and is soon to be released. All performance, recording, and mixing by Mark Walker.
Mark Walker's musical identity was formed at an early age as a result of coerced piano lessons in gradeschool. Eventually the piano as a means of musical expression was replaced by the more palatable acoustic guitar overdriven through a cheap stereo with a cheap microphone.
His first multi-track recordings were made with one microphone and two standard cassette players, adding tracks of drums, bass, guitar, synths & samples back and forth between the two. As soon as he could afford one, he picked up his first four-track, impressing his friends and music teachers with the quality of the recordings and the compositional prowess of the music. The early recordings made in his minimalist bedroom studio weren't the usual fare of the solo artist. Being a multi-instrumentalist, his approach was more like that of a painter, creating atmosphere and depth, using a wide array of sounds as texture - light and darkness. The years of painting, and thinking like an artist are permeated into his music.
