About Me

The Brooklyn-based Americans translate life into sound using nothing but puny analog and electrified instruments. Formed in January of 2001, the band has become the standard-bearer for DIY bands in New York. Americans released their first, EP "all we are saying is give war a chance" in 2003, and their first full length, Margarine in Fall 2005. They are currently at work on their second full length, tentatively titled "How do You Survive?"--NEW EP "ARTIFICIAL HEART" OUT NOW!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: americansrock.com
Band Members: Andrieu Richard, guitar, vocalsTommy Thum, guitar, vocalsMeredith Aleksandr, drumsand Khris Butler on Bass
Influences: "Nobody. Isn't that horrible? We are blindly doing it and trying to be as cautious as we can not to do what is usually done, which is throw yourself out there like some god or something. Our goal is to be the biggest, most natural thing that we are. We are just trying to be ourselves with as much gusto as we can." --Paul Westerberg
Sounds Like: "Being a songwriter and being a musical virtuoso are two completely different things. The best songwriters are usually not the greatest musicians from a technical point of view. They don't spend their time practicing scales, killer guitar riffs, or drum fills. Some of them have singing voices that wilt plants. They make a lot of mistakes on stage. Sometimes they forget entire songs. If they tried to play in someone else's band they might not even be allowed in. On the flip side, technically good players can do just about anything on their instruments, but you'll never see them just pull a song out of thin air." --Jeneen Gauthier

I don't think we've ever had more fun than we did playing Jim, Andy and Carter's art show on Saturday in Bushwick, just a stones throw from the White House in ol' Bushwick. The paintings were magnific...

We Love San Fran!

We're overwhelmed by theoutpouring of hospitality and love we've seen on the West Coast. We loved playing for you, even if the stage monitors were farting in our faces. More to come, but thanks SF!

FUCK the RIAA!

This has gone far enough, and we're going to do something about it. The Recording Industry Association of America, in its misguided zeal to "curb piracy," is targeting college campuses once again, thr...
