Press for STL Underdog
The STL UNDERDOG brings you the STREETS and SPIRIT of St. Louis, in a way that NO major label release can or would dare to.
HOW?
1. MORE HEADS: over 30 local MC's, VOCALISTS, GRAF WRITERS, PRODUCERS, MUSICIANS, MUSES, VISIONARIES, MENTORS and HUSTLERS put work in over the course of the YEAR it took to bring the project to light!
2. PURE EXPRESSION was/is the FOCUS not sales, 'hits' , market share or any other fake shit that has nothing to do with the quality of the ACTUAL CD!
3. THIS IS A COMMUNITY EFFORT, first and foremost. The artists come and go, in and out of the GUERiLLA RADiO studio/syndicate, as they desire , with no contract or obligation other than a "handshake", trust, and a promise of a better tomorrow for ALL involved. After all, business and art mix about as well as oil and water!
4. FAMILY and FRIENDS would be the best way to describe how all the heads involved came together to create this ALBUM. No talent scouts, A&R exec's, no superstar producers, no lawyers or investors, managers or agents; just a vocal booth, a beat the artist was feeling and 'j.guevara' doing his best to get a good recording (or in a few cases, a little smooth talking to get a good recording).
All that out the way, no lie, we NEED support and YOU need this CD and you WILL love it: there is something for everyone on this joint, from hardcore lyrical freestyles, to laid back SOUL grooves; spoken word to party crashing freestyles to beef records; soul-bared confessionals to Big Pun styled braggadocio; even some reggae vibes, and radiohead sonic weirdness thrown in for randomness' sake. There is no denying that this release re-wrote the book on what is possible with a New York style, mix/compilation disc as far as quality and content is concerned.
If you need a comparasin, here it is: "Guerilla Radio: STL Underdog : HALL OF FAME, v1", takes the diversity and artistic integrity of the early-nineties Native Tongues movement, blends it with the lyrical dexterity and Hip-Hop expertise of the Rawkus years, and, in the spirit of the modern SOUL-quarians movement, strives to leave convention and industry trends in the dust in search of a more pure and artistic means of MINORITY expression.

Hall of Fame, and all the other Underdog's, are in the Hip Hop section, under 'G', for Guerilla Radio!!
and No, it's not Rage Against the Machine or a recording of an actual radio program. It IS disenfranchised, dedicated insurgents, fighting with their lives to get their message out there BY ANY MEANS NECCESARY!
What's the message? You will need the CD to answer that; but I will tell you this: no hype, all truth.
