We are ALWAYS looking for new derby skaters. NO SKATING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!!
Beginners practice is on Thursdays from 5:30pm-7pm, and takes place at Empire Roller Rink .
Cost is $5 (incl skate rental), you must be 18+ years old, and you must be female. We will provide safety equipment for you to wear on the first day. In order to graduate from beginner practices you are required to pass a safety skills test and obtain primary insurance. ALL NEW SKATERS are welcome at beginners class, no notification required!
Meet the girls at Retro Skate Night, every Thursday night from 9-11pm at Empire Roller Rink!
Power Pop Pat, one of our fantastic announcers, will be DJ'ing each week. This is a great opportunity for prospective skaters and referees to get wheels under their feet and ask questions. Retro night is open to the public, and Empire does charge an entry/skate rental fee.
We are also always looking for refs! Refs must be 18+, can be male or female, must have valid health insurance, some skating ability, and must attend 75% of scrimmage practices (approx once a week, or 3-5 practices a month). In order to ref at a bout, you must also pass a written rules test and a skating skill test. Protective gear is required for refs, with the exception of a mouth guard.
Jeerleaders/Cheerbeaters are cheerleaders for the derby dames! Both males and females are welcome. You must be 18+. For info on jeerleading you may contact our "Cheerbeaters" directly at their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/djddcheer
We also need scorekeepers, timekeepers, statisticians, and penalty recorders! Scorekeepers keep track of the score at bouting events. Timekeepers keep the time clock going at bouting events. Statisticians take down an official record of sports stats such as whips, blocks, points scored, etc. Penalty recorders record penalties during bouts. All positions may be subject to a practice attendance requirement (1-3 bouting practices prior to the event, depending on responsability level).
Volunteers are needed to help with sponsorship and other committee work. Derby skaters are also required to participate in at least one committee once they graduate from beginner practice, and are welcome to participate as beginners.
Please contact [email protected] for more information on any of the above positions.
