My most noteworthy application is probably that, for the past 2 years, I have been a part of something that I really believe in. I helped build a successful regional touring act with a group of guys i've known my whole life. I have gained valuable experience in all aspects of this industry from booking, promoting, producing, playing and enduring the hardships that come with it. Life ain't easy, but, life as a starving, passionate, touring artist is even harder. I am proud of the things I personally have accomplished and I am also proud of the things our team has accomplished in the past year. We've managed to sell nearly 2000 cds of our original work, tour in 6 different states from SC to WI, booked, managed, and promoted ourselves all the way, opened up for Diamond Rio, Danielle Peck, and Jeff Bates, placed 3rd in "The Music Row Country Showcase", had a major record label showcase for the President of Universal South Records, Mark Wright, and had our music played on various local radio stations along the way. At the moment, I am still the lead guitar player for the band i helped build, Mckenzies Mill. I am very proud to say that and hope that it will stay that way. I wake up every day and I love the life of passion that i've helped create for myself with the help of my friends, and family. My late cousin, Matt Barnes, once said, "Life is about trials, tribulations, triumphs, and sorrows," and its how we deal with them that makes our life meaningful. Music is my life, and, no matter what happens, "life is beautiful." I ALSO write instrumental tunes and occasionally do session work that im very proud of.. I am working on a tribute album to my late cousin Matt Houston Barnes, who was the reason I started on this musical journey when i was 14 back home in West End, NC. He died in a tragic car accident in June of this year and this is the only way I feel I can try and keep his memory from ever dying. He was a proud marine, with a poet's soul and a passion for life I may never see in anyone on this earth as long as I live and I want people to know it and remember Matt Houston Barnes. I lost a cousin, brother, and friend and through music his memory will never be forgotten. Matt's passion in life was music, and through music I find peace as well. I enjoy having my own ideas and exploring different genres of music through my guitar.. I WON 1st Place in Broadjam.com Guitar Solo Contest in honor of Stevie Ray Vaughn's Birthday in Oct. of 06... The winning song was "Push and Pull"... recently after I won I was contacted by a chairman of the Madison Media Institute in WI, about my song. He offered to have me as a guest musician at the 2007 All Star Guitar Night as an up and coming National musician. I recently was able to book the whole band so we can all have a good time on a national stage! I would love any feedback on any of my songs, i would love to hear how people feel about them.. Thankyou very much for listening and I hope to see you on the road soon with Mckenzies Mill... (www.myspace.com/mckenziesmill, OR www.mckenziesmill.com)
