Martin Balikupright bass /electric bass /guitar /compositionMartin initiated his career as a musician by playing electric bass at the age of 16 in two rock groups, La Chueca y Hermana Krauss.He took electric bass and guitar classes until his enrollment in the jazz and contemporary music school where he took classes on electric bass, harmony and participated in an ensemble with Alejandro Correa during 6 years(1994-2000)He began studying the upright bass in the general San Martin classical music conservatory during six years (1995-2001) with renowned musicians such as Omar Moreno(bass) Ofelia Caravajal(harmony) ,Tito Fiore(orchestra) ,among others.From these two schools, Martin formed bands Concertango(1995-1998), tango quintet interpreting the music of Astor Piazzolla, and participating in the circuit of milongas in Buenos Aires, Argentina, winners of important prizes in the festivals of Pre-Cosquin and San Pedro. Martin also formed Fusiones trio(1996-2001) performing original songs and conducting performances in jazz clubs in Buenos Aires.In 1997 Martin took a masterclass with Pedro Aznar.In 1998 and during two years that followed Martin formed part of a group with Miguel Delbo, which culminated in the recording of the a CD, after a thousand years.In the genre of rock,he was an integral member of an Argentinian group Codigo Argentino, that is very active in bars in Buenos Aires playing cover songs.During 2000 and 2001 Martin studied with the prestigious contrabassist Hernan Merlo.Martin teaches electric bass, upright bass y guitar in varioys schools and cultural centers between 1997 - 2001.Upon arrival to New York City in 2002,he continued teaching classes in Unison and A&M studios in Queens and also takintg classes with renowned jazz musicians such as Buster Williams and Scott Colley.Martin is part of a trio, La Piantada, which performs original compositions recorded in their first CD.Amidst Martin’s work, se destaca el ciclo durante 1 año ininterrumpido en Art Land(Brooklyn) and accompanying a theatrical performance taking place at the Terrace Café in Queens.other projects include Wichita duo and the Gustavo Teixeira trio (2002-2004) jazz groups, ,bossa nova and fusion,playing and recording original compositions and presenting in New York.In all of the aforementioned musical groups, Martin played a crucial role in the composition of the music and the arrangement of the group.His most recent projects are with the experimental trio Don Corleone,and TANTA TRAMPA.He was part of the trio Contramano with whom he has recorded the first song of their new CD and music video, as well as performances in NYC and other states.
