Cambatango

CAMBATANGO
nace en mayo del 2006 en una esquina porteña de Buenos Aires, más precisamente en el Barrio de Palermo.
Lucas Sterin Pensel y Ariel López Saldívar se conocían por frecuentar milongas y eventos artísticos de la Ciudad y decidieron formar un Cuarteto de Tango.
Primero se sumó Carolina Cajal, quien integraba la “Orquesta Escuela Emilio Balcarce” cuyas audiciones y ensayos se realizaban en la Casa del Tango.
De la misma reconocida Orquesta se incorporó Koji Hirata quien se encontraba estudiando bandoneón, perfeccionando su técnica con el Maestro Néstor Marconi para llevarla a su país natal, Japón.
Esta formación, bandoneón, contrabajo y dos guitarras tiene el atractivo de fusionar el lado criollo y el carácter orquestal del Tango.
Comenzaron los ensayos y la búsqueda de la voz que le daría el toque final al Cuarteto. Nadie mejor que Ruth de Vicenzo, “la voz de vinilo”, por su excelente repertorio y personalísima interpretación.
El primer show de CAMBAtango fue nada menos que para 1200 personas en el Centro de Convenciones de Parque Norte para el Ministerio de Educación de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires en diciembre del 2006.
Durante el 2007 el cuarteto va ganando popularidad y presenta su show en varios teatros, bares y milongas: en el Parakultural de San Telmo, en La Viruta, en el salón Canning -una de las milongas más populares de la Ciudad y en la histórica “Confitería Ideal” fundada en 1912. También realizaron el cierre del Ciclo “La Guitarra del Renacimiento al Rock” auspiciado por la Fundación Sterenfeld en el Auditorio Amijai, ocasión en la que compartieron escenario con Botafogo y Pedro Aznar. En Octubre del 2007 participaron en la película “El tango de mi vida”, largometraje documental dirigido por Hernán Belón.

CAMBATANGO
was born in Buenos Aires, in May 2006 in the Palermo neighborhood.
There, in a typical ‘hood’ corner, guitar players and friends Lucas Sterin Pensel and Ariel López Saldívar met and started shaping the idea of forming a tango band.
That first meeting was followed by several more sometimes in bars, sometimes in milongas. Ultimately, they agreed: they would establish a tango quartet. They would need two more musicians; thus they started the search for the most talented ones.
That’s when Carolina Cajal gets into the picture. An outstanding bass player, she was part of the Tango Escuela Emilio Balcarce Orchestra and immediately accepted the invitation to join the new tango band. Japanese bandoneon player Koji Hirata had such a love for tango that he had traveled to Argentina to learn everything about it firsthand. He was ready to go back to Japan when Lucas and Ariel made him an offer he could not refuse to become a member of the band and stay in the land were this powerful music genre and dance is part of the daily life.
While they had various gigs and performed at different venues, they decided to add a singer. The lyrics of tango songs like ‘Mocosita’ or ‘Fangal’ were too good to just play them without a voice. Ruth de Vicenzo, christened by the media as “the vinyl voice,” remains true to the style of the 1930’s and 40’s when the singer was not the leader whom the band had to follow but another one of its instruments.
With the two guitars, the bass, the bandoneon and the voice, CambaTango was born and ready to impress audiences young and old with its singular tango sound, part orchestra, part ‘criollo’ or autochthonal.
CambaTango quartet has been the guest band at the Centro de Convenciones de Parque Norte when the musicians performed their select repertoire for the officials of the city’s Ministry of Education. They also performed at the Parakultural de San Telmo and they are a staple at La Viruta and Salon Canning, two of the most popular milongas in Buenos Aires. In September 2007 they were invited to close the festival “La Guitarra: del renacimiento al Rock” or in English “Guitar: from renaissance to rock” sponsored by the Sterenfeld Foundation at the Amijai Auditorium where they shared the stage with prestigious musicians such as Botafogo and Pedro Aznar among others. The quartet made a special presentation at the historic “Confitería Ideal” a Buenos Aires landmark that first opened its doors in 1912.
CambaTango even made it to the silver screen with the appearance of the band in the documentary film “El tango de mi vida” or “The tango of my life, ” directed by Hernán Belón
