[email protected]I'm just recovering from a traumatic time in my life, which is still ongoing, and only my close friends know about. It's the Lord Almighty that gives me the strength to carry on, in the face of adversity. I praise him everyday for the musical blessing he has given to me and, the opportunities he brings me daily! Amen.
MARITALS: Divorced.
INTERESTS:
RAISING my daughter, Writing music, playing/teaching the Piano+Music Technology, Science, Astronomy, Geology, Oceanography, Aviation, cooking, looking after my house, various DIY, catching up with old/new friends, chillin, and a bit of partying thrown into the mix! I love learning so, have always got time for people I can learn from, AND that want to learn.
MUSIC:
Well, where do I start??! I have such a varied spectrum of music that I like to play, and listen to. Absolutely allsorts! Being a musician, I love all music. I'm always listening to different things in order to widen my horizons. Some of my favourites, in order of preference (subject to constant alteration!)
Drum n Bass, Reggae, House, Classical, RnB, Jazz, Blues, 70's Soul, 80's, Motown, Hip-Hop, Soca, Roots, Slow Jams, Garage, Experimental, Electronic, Bashment, Rare Grooves, Soul, etc.. Hmmmmmm, think that's about everything anyway?! Hehe I write music in all these styles too!! Also I do Radio Jingles and Adverts!! Phew! I started out on my musical journey in the late 70's, early 80's. I was always interested in the techie side of things. I got that interest from my Dad, who was, and still is, very much into his top end Hi-Fi. I get most of my musical diversity from him so, thanks Dad! My dad also got me interested in computers at an early age, starting out with a Sinclair ZX81 and then, the 48K Spectrum! I moved on to Commodore after that, with a whopping great 64K! Then, the BBC Micro and eventually the Atari ST. I come from the old school, starting out with programs like C-Lab Notator & Creator. This progressed to early versions of Cubase, until today, the PC and Mac! I've been with DnB from its very beginnings (in Hackney!) when the music evolved out of House/Techno/Hardcore! I started experimenting with music technology, also at an early age, learning about Sequencing & MIDI, before its mainstream introduction. I also experimented with 4-Track recorders, bouncing down three tracks from a cassette tape, down to one, and filling up the remaining tracks. All at about age ten!! Instrument wise, I bounced around for a while, trying out lots of instruments, until finally finding the Piano! I was very very very lucky to have really good music teachers throughout my schooling, for which I am forever endebted! My piano and music teachers taught me soo much about music, and the instrument, that I cannot even express my gratitude, well not in words anyway, maybe in Music! I helped to set up his studio which was very beneficial to me. I learnt alot about studio design, sound proofing, sound engineering, working with other musicians, new piano skills, some session work and the list goes on.. He played with the likes of Bob Marley and therefore, I have a very strong Reggae influence in my playing, often translated into my tracks although sometimes, you can't hear it. Most of my tracks start off as Piano pieces, which then evolve into a track. I find it much easier to play in all my bits, rather than step write them. I have to really feel what I'm playing before I hit record!! I do sometimes step write certain bits in though, usually when I'm tired and can hear the pattern I want but, don't want to play it! The two mains goals I strive for in my music are firstly, to make the tracks timeless, so you can listen to them many years later, and they still cut it! The second, is to make the music appealling to everyone, so that even those who don't like DnB, end up being aurally attracted!! I like using my daughter as a gauge for a track, if she doesn't like it, I scrap it! (well, really I just finish it, and get her into it. She ends up liking it in the end!!) My music is always structured, and usually tells a story. I love counter-melodies, counter-melody basslines, key changes and, it must sound good at 33 as well as 45! I try to include all of those aspects in my tracks, hence I call it Drum And Bass MUSIC!! I like my listeners to be able to follow any intrument/sound/drum pattern in a track, and follow the individual story that bit tells, and the way they all gel toghether to make the bigger picture! If you took the time to read this, well done and, THANK YOU! : ))
MOVIES:
Sci-Fi first and foremost, and it has to be good sci-fi too!! Aside from that, like most things, juss the same as all of you!!?.. Good comedy, scary horror, etc..
TELE:
Don't watch that much telly, I'd rather be writing music on pc or, practising keys. When I do, I just tend to flick!! Always like to watch the News at least once for the day, keep up with Current Affairs?!! Got into Heroes lately and Family Guy!! The old sitcoms like Only Fools And Horses/Porridge, never fail to get me larfin!! Oh, mustn't forget, love documentaries and wildlife programmes too!
