I'd like to meet:
"Rust & Roll" is a forthcoming art, music and culture show that celebrates all things custom. Inspired by home-grown dueces with primered skin to the back yard beasts of the late Sixties and early Seventies that sported more horsepower than common sense, to the wild and almost cartoon-and-drug-enduced creatures of masters like Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and George Barris, "Rust & Roll" means to tap into this fuel source of inspiration and bore it out till the block cracks.
What are we looking to do? Put on one helluva show and show off some of today's best lowbrow, automotive and pop artists. We love artists like Coop, Glenn Barr and J. Tidwell and hopefully, with a little luck and a lot of NeverSeize, maybe we can wrangle some of them to join our greasy gang of gear-freaks and put on a high-octane art show.
Here are some of the details:
As of right now, the show is on hold. Our previous location, Detroit Industrial Projects (and its curator) backed out of the show and we're forced to postpone the gig for right now. Without a gallery-type administrator to aid us in getting this event off the ground, we're sort of 'stalled at the starting line'. So for the time being, Rust & Roll is not happening. We're looking at new venues and options and we WILL be back. Rust & Roll will become the Frankenstein's Monster we initially intended it to be before we had to clip its wings to fit it inside the Detroit Industrial Projects' space.
What's this mean to you? this means you have more time, too. While we're scrambling to resurrect R&R from the crusher, you have more time to submit art if our deadline was too tight for you. We're aiming our show to be in August to sort of become the Anti-Dream Cruise . Where they have pretty, shiny, expensive cars, we're more about home-built monsters that have more rust than paint. This also means that R&R will most likely be Saturday, August 18th... but seeing as this shit has JUST hit the fan, we're still scrambling to deal with it. Stay tuned... we have BIG things in store for you...
Jpeg images and/or website images of artwork; price list that includes dimensions and medium; any information that can be used for promoting artist's work.
Email images/information attention Nix, (subject: Rust and Roll) at [email protected].
All artists need to contact us to schedule a shipping date. All artwork must be ready to hang with wire. Use plexi-glass only when shipping---no glass in framed work. Especially for this venue. Artist's name, title and price should be noted on the back of each artwork. These little details help when hanging a group show of this caliber.
It bears to mention that artists that submit their art for exhibition are not by any means required to actually attend the show. We have been asked this a number of times and we just wanted to clear this up.
