Some days you're the stick, some days you're the pinata...

About Me

My name is Greg, and I'm a guitar player from San Angelo, TX. I live in Cleveland Ohio now, for the last nine years, and it's freaking cold. I work with alot of different people/bands, and if you aren't careful, I may end up working with you. I love Shiner beer, really hot wings, and my gear. I am really obsessed with it, and maintain it almost to a fault. In addition to my own acoustic project, G.S. Harper and the Lonesome Tomatoes, I also work, or have worked in the past with Hayshaker Jones, California Speedbag, Chris Nekvinda, Kevin McCarthy, G.S. Harper and The Sinners, Miss Magnolia, Whitey Morgan and the Waycross Georgia Farmboys, Robert Cornelius and the Lucky Bastards, Paul Michael (The Adults), The Big Bananas, The Roast Beef Sandwich Band, Mojo Street Exit, The Walkin' Cane Band, The Jake Harper Trio, and the list goes on... And that's just in Cleveland. Before I moved here nine years ago and began freezing my ass off on a regular basis, I worked all over Texas, New Mexico, and oddly enough, the rest of the country. My buddy Marsh says I've been more places than Johnny Cash. I've been everywhere man. I have a lot of guitars, because I like alot of different sounds. I'm currently using Fender, Gibson, Kit Harper, and Switch electrics; and Martin, Gibson, Alvarez, Harmony, and Kit Harper acoustics. I have amps by Marshall, Traynor, Fender, and Kustom, and a rack for my acoustic gigs stuffed with ETA, Sabine, ART, and Pre-Sonus pieces. I also own my own PA consisting of JBL and Yamaha gear, great small club system. As a guitarist, I am heavily influenced by a wide array of players, including but not limited to Dickie Betts, Eddie Shaver, Doug Pettibone, Mike Campbell, Elliot Easton, Andy Summers, Johnny Marr, James Honeyman-Scott, Dan Vickrey, Gurf Morlix, Clarence White, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Lowell George, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Albert Collins, Albert King, Bernie Leadon, Bill Kirchen, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Pete Anderson, shit, this could go on all day...It also could be said (even though I don't play the instrument) that I have been influenced by the pedal steel styles of Buddy Cage, Sneaky Pete, and Ralph Mooney. Why am I telling you all of this? In case you need a guitarist. I love working with new people, as long as I enjoy their music, and they are nice folks. I have no interest in cover bands, I did my time, and now I'm done. I love original music, preferrably with a rootsy style, and with elements of country, rock, blues, or all three. So if you have a gig or a recording session you think you could use me on, give a shout through the page here. Monetary compensation is entirely negotiable, and depending on the project/gig, may not even be necessary. I would never pass on something I really liked because of money, unless I felt I was being treated unfairly, or being taken advantage of. Wings, beer, good songs, and good company are great motivators if you are short on cash.--

My Interests

My family and friends, just about any guitar ever made, beer and wings, the Cleveland Indians, the Greenbay Packers, hiking, backpacking, animal watching, people watching. Oh, and my Jeep rules.

I'd like to meet:

Anybody who doesn't take themselves too seriously, and appreciates the value, and healing qualities of a cold Shiner beer and a hot plate of chicken wings.

Music:

Townes Van Zandt, The Indigo Girls, Billy Joe Shaver, CCR, The Bottlerockets, The Jayhawks, The Dead, G.S. Harper and the Lonesome Tomatoes (I know it's shameless, but this is my page, so deal with it), Chris Knight. Truthfully, if the lyrics are good, and clearchannel hates it, I will probably love it.

Movies:

Vampire movies, creature features, superhero and comic book movies are all good with me. I also really enjoy nice pieces of historical fiction, and documentaries can be thoroughly enjoyable if the subject matter interests me.

Television:

Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and Angel, I know they are no longer on the air, but I own both series in their entirety (on DVD) so I can still watch them whenever I want. I also dig Bones, NCIS, House, and Supernatural.

Books:

In The Spirit Of Crazy Horse, Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, any non-fiction pertaining to pre-historic North America and it's peoples,To Kill A Mockingbird, The Milagro Beanfield War, Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Cash, Waylon, Caught In a Crossfire, all of Anne Rice's vampire and Mayfair witch chronicles. Severely guilty pleasures include novels by Clive Cussler and Louis L'Amour. I know they are awfully silly, but my father loved them, and reading them reminds of him.

Heroes:

My Dad, my kids, and anybody brave enough to shoot convention the finger and live life on their own terms. There aren't very many of us left.

Peanut Butter...

I don't get it.  It smells funky, it sticks to the roof of your mouth, and it looks like baby poop.  Thanks anyway, but I'll stick with eating my peanuts in their natural state. Which would ...

I'd rather be sleeping...

On a beach.  Cleveland is a great town, but the weather sucks.  Just ask me, I live here.  It's the kind of place where anybody too skinny is eyed with suspicion, and men in sandals are...
