So what is the Plasticast? It's a broadcast or a podcast - like a radio show - on . . . plastic! Yeah its a CD.
It's a free CD that features unsigned bands and acts coming out every month that you can pick up just like any free zine at record stores, cafes etc. initially around Auckland.
You don't have to be from Auckland to get your music on the plasticast, but initially Auckland will be the only place to get your free copy.
But its more than just a free promo CD. The plasticast is a brand new concept in promotion that puts up and coming local music in the hands of fans and listeners while creating something of true value that sponsors and advertisers can be a part of.
The digital revolution has signalled great changes in entertainment and advertising. Punters expect something for nothing. As the industry cracks musicians are left searching for new means to breakthrough, while advertisers are desperate to be represented by dynamic promotions that provide credibility as well as recognition.
Plasticast is an opportunity for everyone to get something good. Prolific free promotion for bands, free music for those who want it and great value for sponsors and advertisers wanting to get in behind an innovative new concept.
MORE DETAILS ABOUT HOW WE'RE DOING THIS:
Starting off with a limited run of 500 and then moving to 1000 cd's per month, the audio content will have a radio show feel - endorsing sponsors and local bands, websites, gigs, events etc. There will also be room for video and picture galleries on the CD, coming with a full colour A4 fold out featuring info on the bands, sponsors ads, gigs, photos etc. Initially the majority of copies will be distributed in auckland and then spread out over the country.
For the benefit of the acts featured copies will be sent to radio and other media contacts throughout the country. Artists should also be aware that they are welcome to provide "promo" versions of thier songs - wether half a tune or including voice overs and edits designed to encourage listeners to buy the download. THIS IS THE NEW MODEL PEOPLE!!! Seriously.
Initially the CD's will be distributed just like any other free publication - in cafes, music and fashion stores, but there may come a need to regulate supplies if we unable to produce the sponsorship to expand to meet demand. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
