About Me

David Mitton was born in Boston, MA 1978. At the age of five he moved out of Charlestown to Marion, MA, where his parents have now settled. At the age of 8 David began playing the saxophone. Dave played lead alto through high school and in 1996 went to berklee school of music for three semesters. Then took the 1998 spring semester off to make some money doing landscaping and working at a boat yard. During the fall of 98 Dave transfered to Hartwick college in Oneonta, NY, where he studied with the great Al Gallodoro, Rob Hunt, and Brian Wilson. During the four years in Oneonta, Dave played with local legends Mark Pawket, Rob Lipari, Tom Wapat, and Mike Guarente. After four years Dave graduated in 2002 with honorable distinction in music. He attended the Lake Placid Institute that summer where he studied with Joe Lovano, Billy Hart, Bob Brookmeyer, Cecil McBee, and Rufus Reid. Later that year Dave began playing with UMass Dartmouths Creative Jazz ensemble led by Royal Hartigen. In this ensemble Dave met great musicians from the Dartmouth area, such as, Andy Mcwain, Sean Farris, Marcus Montero, Rick Britto, Chris Poderiari, (Spelling) and Jim Robitie. All regulars in the early stages of the Audible Think music series, of which Dave participated through the summer of 2003. In October 2003 Dave moved to Lake Tahoe, CA. Here he worked on a ski resort and kept up with his music studies, wirting a series of tunes on guitar and saxophone. Spring 2004, Dave moved back to the east coast and spent more time at the Audible Think music project. In July Dave attended another workshop, where he studied with Billy Taylor. Later that year Dave moved to New York, where he was reaquainted with Mike Guarente and started a Trio with drummer Mike Drezwiki. Then in the summer of 2005 Dave moved to Providence where he eventually met Brian Thomas and friends at a jam session. Since then Dave has studied with Gearge Garzone, and has recently come back to berklee for the 2006-07 semesters. Dave has just recently been accepted into Longy school of Music where he will be getting his masters degree in Modern American Music, and will be attending fall 2007.
