ORTHANC

Orthanc has been created in the beginning of 1995 by the will of the Maréchal glaurung (drums, vocals) and adanedhel (guitars, vocals), first under the name of Dark Venus. At that time, BM was not a trend as it is today. /.../ Between 95 & 97, the band composed many tracks and played 2 gigs in the south of France. Lots of members came in the line-up, but none stayed in Orthanc for a long time. In 1997, Adanedhel and the Maréchal splitted because of musical misunderstanding. But Orthanc was not dead! Glaurung never wanted to let HIS project to disappear! In 2003, Svallnacht (Valsblut) has joined the Maréchal to recreate the band. Together they recomposed some old tracks and recorded the MCD "7 ans de réflexion" (out on Musique & Tradition). Summer 2004, with session musicians, Orthanc played live at Moutier (CH), with Blessed in Sin and Seigneur Voland. October 2005, a new opus will be out on Christhunt Prods, with a new line-up: Pesttanzer (vocals) and Dracir (guitar, ex-Crystalium) joigning Svallnacht an the Maréchal. Then, after their 2nd opus, Svallnacht & Pesttanzer lived the band. Orthanc had to find a new line-up... and Hrafnagud from Destinity joined them.
With this line-up (Marechal Glaurung, Dracir & Hrafnagud), Orthanc played many concerts in France and Europe, with bands such as Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Kult, Inferno, Absurd, Temnozor but also Brutal Attack.
Unfortunately, due to many behaviour problems, Orthanc has to part with Dracir (september 2007). Concomitantly, Marechal Glaurung and Hrafnagud begin the recording of new studio tracks. One of them will appear on a tribute-compilation. The other songs will be added to live songs on the new album called "L'Age de raison" in order to feast Orthanc's 12th birthday. Coming late 2007 / early 2008.
