Daniel Stawinski was born in Berlin in 1979. He started to play classical piano at the age of 6. Some years later he started taking jazz lessons with Alexander von Schlippenbach and Aki Takase. Already in his teens he was an active member of the Berlin jazz scene. From 2001 till 2005 he studied at the jazz department of the local conservatory Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler. During this time he played not only in many jazz groups, but also with most salsa groups in Berlin. Uniting these two stylistic influences his favorite genre is Latin Jazz. But more generally he is interested in all kinds of latin-american and african music and the possible ways of approaching those musical traditions as a jazz musician.
Daniel Stawinski performed in festivals such as the Ruhr Piano Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival. With his group Clave Azul he won the first prize of the 2005 Berlin Jazz&Blues Award. In 2005 he moved to Paris. Currently he's playing concerts in France and Germany.
