Profile GeneratorSteve's Bio:
Guitarist, Steven Corsaro was born February 18, 1957 in Niagara Falls, New York, to his parents Jimmy and Mary Corsaro. The oldest of three boys, Steve fell in love with music at the ripe age of five years old after watching his father Jimmy play Jazz organ around the upstate area.
In 1964, Steve moved to California after his father followed some of his friends Tommy Tedesco, Lou Morrell, Charley Chiarenza and Nick Minicucci in1962 to start in the recording industry. California had the best work available in the Jazz scene both in clubs and studios. Steve was able to associate himself with some of the best players in the music industry throughout his life; to name a few: Tommy Tedesco, Lou Morrell, Charley Chiarenza, Joe Pass, Tony and Joe Morrilo. Additionally, he has been able to meet many artists through his life such as Richard Pryor (whom spent a week at the Corsaro home in late ‘60s), Tony Bennett, Lee Rittenour, Larry Carlton, Louis Armstrong and many others.
Early in his childhood, Steve began to play on his fathers Hammond B3 organ. By age 8 his father bought a guitar for him, waiting to see if Steve showed an interest in the instrument ( most of Jimmy’s friends that were an important part of the pop scene that was evolving, played guitar!) to get him formal lessons. But Steve took an interest in drums at age 10 after a few guitar lessons. By age 12 Steve had been experimenting on both instruments and decided to start a band. After a couple rehearsals with some neighborhood kids, Steve was forced to play guitar, being the only one able to play the songs and reluctantly began his love affair with the guitar!
Over the next few years Steve began to woodshed in his room to hone his craft. Playing professionally at age 13, Steve continued to grow artistically throughout his teens. Forming the band Atlantis with friend Roger Jones in 1971 Steve became one of a handful of players to build a following. With the addition of former vocalist Andrew Sanchez ( Daddy’s Nightmare, Shine, American Gang Bang Revival-1970, 1971) Atlantis enjoyed some local success, only to disband in 1975.
Steve and Andrew began writing and performing under the name “The Andrew Stevens Duo†over the next 5 years. Winning the “Gong Show†in 1979 and building a large following in Southern California. Unfortunately the duo went their separate ways in early 1980.
In late 1980 Steve caught up to Andrew who had formed “The Andrew Schafer Duo†and joined forces with some other local musicians to form the “Andrew Schafer Group†with Mark Schafer on piano, Ron Cattalano on sax, Carlo Tenori on bass, Roger Burn on drums and Steve on guitar. This was one of the Southlands best Jazz-Jazz fusion groups to play live. Playing from Northern California to Southern California the band was sure to be a success. With a multiple thousand person mailing list the groups following continued to grow until disbanding in 1986 due to irreconcilable differences. Many recordings still exist today.
Steve continued to grow musically in his home studio, playing once or twice a year publically with friends and band “Waitless†until 2001when Steve played with Andrews nephews Manny and Ron Sanchez. Both boys in their mid teens with astounding abilities yet to be honed! By 2002 Steve would sit in and play many times with their band “Nothing To Loseâ€
In 2006 Steve began to play with Ron and Manny in the “GrooveSession†and played the Prado Latin Jazz Festival in August. The “GrooveSession Latin Twist’ played between Freddie Ravel and Susi Hanson at the festival and went on to open the Riverside Jazz festival with artists Nils, Mindy Abair, Everette Harp and Unwrapped in late September 2006.
Steve is now playing with ‘Shades of Blue’ blues band and any and all musicians that come to his attention.
Steve is available for any and all job opportunities offered.
