About Me

† † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † † †I know I confuse some people, but what can I say? I am a person who who hates to fight but loves to argue, who loves being a woman but hates feminism, who dresses in skirts yet is one of the guys, who loves animals but hates PETA, who is totally fascinated by politics but refuses to be part of a political party, who organizes every folder in my computer but ignores the folders on my desk, who has studied theological philosophy but doesn’t like organized religion, who is laid back, and yet friends worry about what will happen if they ever get me really mad, who wants to be loved yet pushes away almost every guy who has ever really tried to get close to me. Yeah I AM confusing, but it all makes sense to me.
I love to go out and have a good time with my friends, that really is the essence and meaning of life! There is nothing I will not do for those that I genuinely care about... I will put my neck on the line any time if it means protecting my friends and looking out for them, speaking out when I think they might get hurt, offering to help them whenever I think I can. Sure it gets me in trouble but that's OK with me... as long as I know I'm doing the right thing it is worth it.
I love guys who are in to BEING guys. A lot of people misinterpret what I mean by that, but its hard to explain. Simply put, I dont want one of those "I dont act like a guy, arent you proud of me?" types. I am secure enough with myself not to be intimidated by men who act like, well- MEN! In fact, I like it. Its not that I want to spend my time with an insensitive jerk, that is NOT what it means to be a man, anyway. I am just very comfortable with guys and I am powerful enough not to ever feel overshadowed by masculine energy. Just make sure youve actually got some and arent a complete wuss, or dont even bother wasting our time. Ive dealt enough with wussy guys to last a lifetime, thank you.
I’m a pretty intelligent person and I like talking to other smart people- whether they have a phd or a ged, that doesn’t matter at all. I am lucky to have a lot of friends both in real life and even online who are great people.
Though I’m not structurally religious, I do hold strong allegiances to certain things. I am a spiritual person who admires humanity and cares about our planet. I am really proud to be part of the metal community, proud to be an American, and proud of my Germanic and Celtic heritage. I believe in the existence of a true power that is inside of all of us... call it our humanity if you will, a fundamental connection between all of us that goes far beyond culture and custom to something more primal, more basic, more important. Its there, and and the more of it we learn to understand, the better off this world will be. I'm working on finding all of mine.

My Interests

I love hockey. A LOT.
I would LOVE Rick DiPietro even if he was ugly. He just happens to be phenomenally gorgeous. If he wasnt a goalie, he could be a model- that is how hot that man is.
And my Brendan... GOD do I love that man. He is even a Black Sabbath AND a South Park fan.
Ive got to give a little attention to the Mets, as well: And here is the best of both worlds... my Rick (DiPietro) taking batting practice with the Mets!

OK, OK... anyway, back to my other interests lol... Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music, education, science, writing, politics, Citrus Vitamin Water, watching The Simpsons, South Park, Scrubs, nice shoulders, strong arms, soft hair, (uh, back on topic, Chris... OK... anyway...) time with my friends, going out to eat, a great guitar riff, live shows (I go as often as I can- time and cash permitting!) Thats the basics :)

I'd like to meet:

First off, if you are trying to contact me and youre NOT a member here, just write to me on AOL- I am TheMetalChick. :)

As far as MySpace goes, I'm here just to keep in touch with my friends both in real life and online. (No, I am not looking for any cyber sex pals nor am I dying to share nude photos of myself; I also am not a lesbian nor am I the slightest bit bisexual- so there's no need to ask about any of that, K? Also, a few people have asked me to share even more pictures- I have a bunch up here on MySpace and thats good enough! Sorry, but all the pictures I put up are pics Id let my dad see!) :)

Friends, both old and new, feel free to add me, of course. Anyone who knows me from my posts on Sludge and isnt a dick can add me, too... just let me know who you post as on the boards if your Sludge nym isn't listed on your profile- I may post there a lot but I certainly dont know everyones nyms! But, if I have never met you or talked to you before, it is always nice to get an email first telling me who you are. Im not saying it just to make you write, its simply because I ignore most of my friend requests since many of them are bands I dont know/like and people with whom I have nothing in common and who have nothing to say to me. So, if you actually want to be friends on here and I havent added you, write to me, let me know who you are, and we will talk. Thanks :)

Now as far as who I would LOVE to meet in real life, that would be:
Nicolas Cage, Bill Ward (the only one of the first six members of Black Sabbath that I have not met!), Stephen Hawking, Michael Nelson, Christina Hoff Sommers, Bill Corbett, Matt Groening, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Brad Pitt, Ann Wilson, Rick DiPiertro, Brendan Witt, Paul Newman, Kevin Costner, Mike Piazza, etc. It's a little too late, but if time travel were possible I would have to add in Thomas Jefferson, Leonardo DaVinci, Elvis, Criss Oliva, Herod of Alexandria, Randy Rhoads, Imhotep, King Solomon, Plato, Ramesses II, Confucius (though he didn't like women all that much), Napoleon, Einstein, Socrates, etc. I would sit down (with an interpreter as applicable) and talk to each of them for hours on end!

Music:

I love music, it is part of almost everything in my life.

Some of my favorite singers include Ronnie James Dio, Jon Oliva, Don Dokken, Paul Simon, Rob Halford, Mat Sinner, Blackie Lawless, David Draiman, Bruce Dickinson, Jack Russell, Tony Harnell, David Crosby, Ozzy Osbourne, Dennis DeYoung, Ann Wilson, Dee Snider, etc. That should give you a good sample of what I'm about :)

What music I want to hear all depends on my mood. Normally I love listening to great bands like Savatage, Disturbed, The Scorpions, Trivium, Saxon, WASP, good angry sexy metal bands. ;) I love Black Sabbath, Dio, Ozzy solo, Twisted Sister, Accept, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Grim Reaper, Anthrax, King Diamond, Kiss, old school Metallica, Megadeth, Queensryche, Whitesnake, Death Angel, Alice Cooper, etc. (Hey, I am called The Metal Chick for a reason!)

I love Dokken, Great White, Ratt, Tesla, Winger, Cinderella, Def Leppard, Extreme, Kix, so many other bands! However, I am really in to what most of these bands are doing NOW. Seriously, it's not just some nostalgia trip for me. Believe it or not, many of these bands put out some of the best albums of their entire careers in the 90s and 00s. The vast majority of these still put out great stuff, and in my humble opinion our heroes deserve new opportunities to share their talent.

I get in to a lot of the bands that made a name for themselves in Europe as well- even the ones not from Europe lol. Many of them are really holding up the proverbial flag for this genre of music. I have to give recognition to great bands like Primal Fear, Sinner, Sinergy, Lion's Share, Iced Earth, Astral Doors, Helloween, Tad Morose, Stratovarius, Edguy, Hammerfall, so many others... it's great stuff!

I'm also in to seeing bands like Finding Four, Dead End Kidz, Winterspell, Gothic Knights, Rob Balducci, Hugh Mann and the Beings, Future 86 (formerly Pretty Suicide), Liquid Overload, Saviour, etc. These bands can all be found in my friends list and you really should go check them out!!!

I also love bands like The Who and Jefferson Airplane. Heart kicks ass... and they still sound fantastic live! I LOVE Simon and Garfunkel... I own every single song they have ever released and consider Paul Simon one of the greatest American songwriters of all time. Dylan, CCR, CSN, the Mamas & The Papas, yeah even though Im not a stereotypical 60s type fan I am in to folk rock, too.

I must also confess a real soft spot for tribute bands as well... I have a lot of fun seeing them. Some of my favorites are Sacred Heart (Dio), Evolution (Journey), Almost Queen (Queen), Who's Next (The Who), Live After Death (Iron Maiden), Iron Priest (guess lol...), Draw the Line (Aerosmith), etc. It's just a good time :) In fact, Id love to be singing in a cover band myself, but we cant find a guitar player... yet... We will keep working on it though, and you know what they say, good things come to those who wait!

Movies:

Dances With Wolves, Con Air, 8mm, Fight Club, Waterworld, Apollo 13, Seven, 12 Monkeys, I Robot, The Matrix, Clerks (God I loved both of them), The Cable Guy, Wild At Heart, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Braveheart, Mr. Holland's Opus, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Gone in 60 Seconds, A League of Their Own, Dead Poet's Society, Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie, Kingpin, Airplane, The Family Man, Pirates of the Caribbean, This Is Spinal Tap, Awakenings, Casablanca, High Fidelity, Cinderella Man, Blow, National Treasure, Breakfast Club, Grease, Braveheart, Airheads, Fried Green Tomatoes, Gone With The Wind, Titanic, Chasing Amy, Back To The Future (all three, but especially the first one), The Rock, The Wedding Singer, Dogma, The New Guy, Clueless, the Star Trek movies, Austin Powers 1 and 3, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Star Wars (Episodes Five and Three are my favorites!), etc.

Television:

The Simpsons, South Park, Scrubs, All In The Family, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Futurama, Star Trek Enterprise, Mama's Family, The Carol Burnett Show, Little House on the Prairie, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, VH1Classic (especially Metal Mania!), The Honeymooners, HBB on MTV2, What Not To Wear, The Dog Whisperer, MythBusters, Forensic science detective shows, and absolutely anything on The Science Channel. Unless Im watching something specific I usually just leave on VH1C, The Science Channel, or Comedy Central... or Im watching the Islanders (hopefully winning!)

Books:

Any books by people like Daniel Dennett, Christina Hoff Sommers, Diane Ravich, etc. I am definitely a fan of non-fiction books. I love to read about science, politics & philosophy as opposed to fantasy and the like.
Some of my favorite quotes...
"To punish me for my contempt for authority, fate made me an authority myself."
-Albert Einstein
"You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself."
-Galileo Galilei

-Thomas Carruthers
"New Feminism emphasizes the importance of a woman's point of view, while Old Feminism believes in the importance of a human being."
-Winifed Holtby, 1926 (and her words ring with more truth as the decades pass...)
"Don't get into the bra-burning, anti-man, politics-of-orgasm school," Betty Friedan (former president of NOW, believe it or not!)
"Women's intellect is manifested as perfect control, presence of mind, and utilization of all advantages."
-Friedrich Nietzsche
"I scored 573 goals in 10 years... there weren't any goalies I couldn't handle."
-Mike Bossy

-Friedrich Nietzsche
"Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater."
-Gail Godwin
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."
-Aristotle
"It is only the ignorant who despise education."
-Publilius Syrus
"Education has produced a vast population able to read but unable to distinguish what is worth reading."
-G.M. Trevelyan
"I know not with what weapons WWIII will be fought, but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones."
-Albert Einstein

Heroes:

I can think of two characters worth mentioning here. Oddly enough, they are both cartoons: First of all, Leela is great and I identify with her in many ways. We often dress alike. She is really stubborn and hates to be told that she is wrong. She will risk anything for her friends, and thinks of them as family. Generally, Leelas pretty happy with her life- she is moderately successful, but she can sometimes be lonely. She wont admit it, though. Leela cant find the right guy, but she DID hook up with a self-centered narcissistic egomaniac like Zapp Brannigan! Years later, she STILL has to pay the price for that choice whenever she sees him. Leelas romantic life is a paradox- she doesnt want the ones that want her, and she wants the ones that dont get her. Upon reflection, Leela just cant figure out why she isnt girlfriend material. She tells herself it doesnt matter, and most of the time it really doesnt. At least she has friends like Fry, Zoidberg, and my favorite robot ever- Bender- that love her for exactly who she is!
When it comes right down to it, my hero is definitely Ms Edna Krabappel, Bart's 4th grade teacher from The Simpsons. Even though I am no longer a teacher (I stopped teaching in 2005) I still identify with her!
Edna works for a school that doesn't give her all the supplies she needs to be a great teacher. She doesn't even have enough textbooks for her kids and has to use a freebie Periodic Table from Oscar Meyer to teach science lessons! Edna loves her job- in theory- but she is quite bitter about the state of education in America. Edna has to work hard not to let her enthusiasm get worn down just because the system itself sucks. She is frustrated by how little of a crap her students give about their own education!!! Edna's students give her crap for no good reason- as if it is HER fault that they don't do ANYTHING! Edna smokes too much.
In her personal life, Edna has been screwed over by guys and just wants a hot guy to party with her. She gets ticked off and frustrated that there is NO man in her own town of Springfield that can give her what she wants.
But on the plus side, Edna is a true rocker!!! Whenever a great band comes to Springfield Edna is right there- dressed the part and ready to party. I absolutely love that chick.
Edna is ME.
(And on another note, Edna was also the name of my grandma- the coolest person I have ever known. She will always be my real life hero.)
