About Me

i aim to make films, ideally pretty ones, and ones with good stories. i work within the small but mostly well formed world of animation, producing mainly.
as yet haven't worked animating a car to do things they shouldn't like dance and rolleblade and fish, which is something i'm happy about.
aside from that i enjoy the usuals; eating/cooking, reading, watching, listening, blah blah

My Interests

words & pictures (sometimes moving ones - pictures not words; moving words are metaphorically good but physically usually related to substance abuse which may be good but often ends up bad), cooking up a storm, plinking on the piano (never plonking), musical greatness, travels far and wider than the sea, stories, thinking occasionally & understanding why when i need to (leaving be when i don't)

I'd like to meet:

david lynch, my doppelganger & a real cowboy. on a more realistic note, other people may apply.

Music:

Long list shall follow of a choice few from my collection (how dull): aim, alucidnation, aphex twin, beck, birdy nam nam, boards of canada, cassette boy, chris coco, dj format, dj shadow (well, I like his early stuff), dusty springfield, eels, emperors new clothes, fat freddy's drop, flevans, fog, fort lauderdale, fourtet, gotan project, handsome boys modelling school, herbaliser, hint, honeyroot, horace andy, howie b, jenny lewis with the watson twins, joanna newsom, john matthias, john rankin, jolie holland, jon hopkins, jurassic 5, kate bush, kid koala, king biscuit time, king kooba, the kronos quartet, lamb, lata mangeshkar, lemon jelly, manitoba, manu chao, massive attack, mc honky, murcof, some mylo, the nextmen, nike drake, nicola conte, nightmares on wax, orbital, peggy honeywell, pj harvey, radiohead, ralph myerz and the jack herren band, ravi shankar, riton, sam prekop, sigur ros, squarepusher, the string quartet, sufjan stevens, susumu yokota, tomasz stanko quartet, toots and the maytals, UNPOC, ulrich schnauss and vitalic but aside from that I like classical (specially piano music), trip hop, blippy music (sometimes, have to be in the blippy mood), jazz, blues, lo-fi and interesting soundtracks and on and on and on the list goes..

Movies:

oh there's just too many. But to give an idea: michel gondry films, terry gilliam, hal hartley, david lynch, tim burton (hit & miss), hitchcock, little miss sunshine, the fountain, sideways, the squid and the whale, you and me and everyone we know, junebug, about schmidt, night of the hunter, i know where i'm going, the red shoes, the cabinet of dr caligari, rear window, freaks (the todd browning version), devil doll (also todd browning), the conversation, mulholland drive, paper moon, lawn dogs, the straight story, time bandits, the illusionist... old wierd films, new wierd films.. but i don't like making lists like this, i feel unfair towards the ones that i forget to list. i have a feeling that's daft..

Television:

sometimes cookery shows are worth a watch... i prefer to watch series on DVD so i can control how much and how often. have enjoyed carnivale, though it got a little repetitive.. 24 is always worth a watch, it's easy. used to like deadwood until the end of the last series. watching on & off heroes and dexter at the moment.. if i had any form of digital then it might be different, instead i have pretty fuzzy 4 channels and a snowstorm on 5..

Books:

comic book artists like daniel clowes, chris ware (appeals to the perfectionist in me), craig wingwalt thompson, adrian tomine, jeffrey brown and more have been recieving a lot of my attentions of late. oh and edward gorey is a great inspiration too. but i also read books without pictures.. a few of the authors i return to: paul auster, kate atkinson, elizabeth knox, angela carter, anne tyler, dostoyevsky, jonathan coe, haruki murakami. there were more names im sure.. recently enjoyed: the king is dead by jim lewis, everything you know by zoe heller, three to see the king by magnus mills, the tea rose by jennifer donnelly, and revolutionary road by richard yates. that was a good book. it's important to always have a book to read, a life without the chance to escape just ain't complete...
