About Me

"...songs as sad and haunting as ghosts rising from the delta... there is a distinctly Southern sadness in her (Allison Jenkins) low, echoing voice that is as hypnotic as a siren's call... Wooden Finger's songs are about loss and longing laced with divine strangeness. A true Southern gothic sound, their music has elements of old folk songs combined with indie rock, and they play music with a fascination for what we can and cannot see."
Tiger Weekly
"The quintet creates some truly haunting music that speaks in the language of ghosts and graveyards with an emphasis on more raw emotion than gloom. Their debut "all this time ... still we're lost" would not seem out of place next to the equally haunting beauty of This Mortal Coil and several other artists from the glory days of the English label 4AD. "
Hattiesburg American
Southern gothic indie-folk. "If Annie Lennox and Nico were in Low and scoring a David Lynch movie, Wooden Finger would surely be the result"
Jackson Free Press
"This band explores every emotion in its songwriting and its sound that echoes the influences of every musical genre without overwhelming....offers listeners one of the most captivating lead singer voices..."

Wooden Finger sprang to life in the fall of 2004 as a collabroative effort between vocalist Allison Jenkins and multi-instrumentalist Mathew Magee. Late night writing sessions in Mathew's dimly lit basement/studio space helped formulate the ethereal sound that drenches their debut LP "All This Time...Still We're Lost." Their music is an eclectic, genre-skipping blend of influences ranging from classical/baroque to bluegrass/folk that creates an amalgam of sound, a musical identity all its own. The thematic content of their material takes the listener on a poignant journey through human emotions of loss, sorrow, hope and redemption that is ultimately brought together in a cohesive fashion that has best been described as "eerie stories disguised brilliantly as songs."
Since the album's release, additional members have been brought into the fold (Allison's sister Christy Turner on keys, Jamie Weems on mandolin and guitar, and Daniel Guaqueta on drums) to further flesh out the rich textures and harmonic layers that encompass the Wooden Finger aesthetic. Wtih the addition of these new members/instruments to Wooden Finger, a creative transformation has occurred, taking the direction of the band to new sonic territory. Also as a result, their song catalogue has successfully been broken apart and weaved back together into a tapestry of chronic bleakness and beauty.
