psyence a.k.a. Granberg is a king from Sin City (Stockholm). He raps, sings and makes beats. He does it in both English and Swedish. He's done a few Drum n bass and Techno tunes in the past and he might get back into those genres again depending on his mood. He's an ex-member of Snofru. He's done an album with Snofru and featured on various mixtapes with them, the S.C.R. Crookz and others. He's a storyteller. He paints pictures, be they super beautiful or incredibly horrid. He expresses his feelings thru the music. He's a wordsmith. He loves wordplay. He enjoys confusing his audience, himself and using multiple layers of depth in his lyrics. He can also be blunt and not cover the words in metaphors at all. He laughs at the images he sees while writing. He has a dark sense of humour. He's a poet. He's an angel. He's a demon. He's emotional. He's psyence.
He's got his own philosophy on how things will be done:
He ain't gonna waste time making CD's that u can, but won't cop. He ain't gonna aim to sell anything. He ain't gonna waste much energy pushing anything. He ain't gonna waste time tryna make a track sound well-produced as long as it's of psyQuality. He's basically taking things back to the 80's and the early 90's when being a part of a subculture meant something and you did it for the love of that subculture. He thanks the early, Swedish Death Metal scene for the weekly concerts, the fun, the music, the raw energy, the freedom, the self-reliant attitude and his explicit view on subcultures. All subcultures go hand in hand, especially when looking at them in perspective, altho how they choose to express themselves will vary and that's the way it should be.
A thing I’ve adopted totally, since even before i began making my own music, is the “Do it yourself†mentality. If you want fat beats, either hook up with people that make em or make your own. Take your responsibility and stop the bullshit. Cats are so scared of Not being this or that guy, they can't even be themselves or expand themselves correctly. There's alotta rappers in Stockholm and more than 99% of em suck n should quit haha. By the way, there is no hip hop scene in Sweden. It's all scarred tissue. A desert wasteland that used to be walked by those with the gift of tongue. Those were the days this king enjoyed the presence of skilled musicians. Oh, how i miss those golden days of reign. Nowadays the others either just sit on their arses waiting for things to happen or they sound like punctured guppies. I've got more love for the people outside of Stockholm doing their thing. Keep it fresh. I’m not the best, but I have the attitude of the best, so it’s just a matter of time before i'm amongst them angels with scarred wings that frown upon the filth of man. psyence didn't give up when he decided not to waste time on the other side of the music bidness. Nah, he just went back to his roots like Sepultura.
Know this, everything i write goes thru my soul, that's how i can write about anything without feeling like a fraud. I'm never the gangster, but i might turn into the one that tells stories about a gangster thru a gangsters perspective, feel me? That's what's gonna make me stand out compared to the next dude doing his plain copy, copy thing. It's all story telling. Don't take life too seriously. Life will handle that part for you.
