About Me

The COAL DUSTERS are a five-piece Detroit area band that plays both traditional and contemporary bluegrass. The band’s sound is defined by the sincere and assured voice of Shelley Asbury contrasted with the harmonies of Paul Allard on guitar and James Hohner on bass, over the relentless rolling banjo of Ingo Mucha and the chopping mandolin of Jim Allard.Their live sets tend to focus on the commonly agreed upon standards, the sometimes overlooked rarities and their own heartfelt originals. With more than three hours of live music covering the entire time line of the “High Lonesome Sound,” The COAL DUSTERS’ live performances are a living history of the genre. The COAL DUSTERS are also songwriters, with a catalog varying from traditional story songs to fast bluegrass burners. They are the preservationists of the bluegrass sound and continue to tell its unique story. And now The COAL DUSTERS.
