About Me

brought up living in ancient decrepit houses, barns and caravans, did the peace marches and country fayres, educated at home, and learnt to think for myself... this slightly liberal youth left me with a healthy regard for people, and a savage disgust for society... now i am seemingly addicted to living life on jagged edges between contentment and chaos... not a huge believer in making life comfortable... i try to keep my feet on the ground and my head in the clouds...these days mainly to be found running around london, normally to do with film, art and culture (www.newcinema.org.uk)... this can be anything from getting 50 people to renovate an old chapel into a experimental moving image gallery to working with artists and producers to get britain excited about thought provoking cinema... and making some fucking good films...right now i'm also a promo boy, which i do to earn a crust... this gets me occasionally very cold, very bored, and looking very foolish... it can also be hysterically entertaining, thanks to the fantastically talented aspirants who are my colleagues... i quite like it...I have a low tolerance of foolishness, an indulgence in emotions over materialism, and choose to make life above all interesting... sympathy for all who struggle to understand...I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

My Interests

what isn't interesting... people, places, culture, art, fashion, music, books, films, architecture... always up for being inspired by the profound, perfect or precise...

I'd like to meet:

people/bands/artists with an abundance of 'je ne sais quio'... the sensibly insane and the ridiculously rational...

Music:

radiohead / portishead, led zeppelin / lou reed, goldfrapp / gorillaz... howling bells and cat power alot right now, need to listen to more joanna newsom... otherwise into those i know; check out kezz stone, cord, robin foster, artur dyjecinski and olivia flenley...

Movies:

i am terrible at favourites, far too definitive for me... but things that spring to mind include crash (Cronenberg), cache (Haneke) and crash again (this time Haggis), natural born killers (Oliver Stone) / apocalypse now (Mr Ford Coppola), the good/bad/ugly (Leone)/ La Vita e Bella (Benigni), mulholland drive (David Lynch)/ easy rider (Dennis Hopper)... and most recently dumplings (fruity li) that's as good a list of directors as films, which is no surprise... got to admire clint both in front and behind the camera... living legend genre buster... tim burton rarely fails and johnny depp is a fucking phenomenon... so where the hell are the brits!

Television:

rarely have the time or patience... growing weary of channel 4 news, unreported world has its moments and the occasional dispatches to keep abreast of what might or might not be going on in our mad little world... lost or twin peaks to cut loose... and then get very cross and regularly hurl derisory insults toward the screen at all the junk i love to despise... but fashion tv rules!

Books:

i get hopelessly lost in books, sometimes for years... so have to feed my addiction all too carefully... pattern recognition, 1984, brothers grimm stuff, clockwork orange, easy riders/raging bulls, goodnight steve mcqueen (louise wener, mhhmmmm)... susan coopers 'dark is rising' series is what life is all about... literature offers too much of an alternate universe to enthrall... but I get fuck-all done!..

Heroes:

the nutty/sexy/smoothness in captain jack sparrow, the fierce and real in ray mears, the crisp intellect of jean-luc picard and stephen fry, the frontier artistry of Davids Lynch and Bowie...
