The „Ensemble Du Verre was formed in 2003 by Sönke Düwer aka Batterie Du Verre, with trumpet player Claas Ueberschär, bass player Daniel Cordes and Sönke Düwer on drums and electronica. In 2004 “facing, transparentâ€, the first album of e.d.v. was released, the music can be labelled as jazz, but it’s the mix of stylistic and electronic addons, that characterize the sound of the band until today. “Sing Me Something†followed one year later. On this album Batterie Du Verre works with the human voice. Amongst others Sidsel Endresen, Ursula Rucker and Torun Eriksen can be heard. Once again, just like on “facing, transparentâ€, Du Verre explores very different musical and technical possibilities.
Sine 2008 Du Verre has run his own label “Batterieâ€, with the third e.d.v. album “Sanctuary For Animals†on it. Also on this one there are various musical guests next to the regular band members, amongst them once again Ursula Rucker. Du Verre had produced the song “Uh uh†for her album “Ma’at Mamaâ€. In return the Philadelphia based poetry icon sings on “Just Another Thursday Morningâ€, the songs comes with an internet video. The music on this album reminds the listener of score music, in a mix with jazz, samples and electronica.
Since 2006 Du Verre has got his own solo side project “Energie Du Verreâ€, which can frequently be heard in the Mojo Club and on several compilations (… Mojo Club Vol.13, Jazz & Milk Vol.2, Musik For Modern Living Nr.10). Another album will be released on Batterie in 2008.
