HI! my name is John Frizzelle and i write, draw, ink, paint, photograpgh, print, staple, fold, hustle and ship my own comic called ROMERO BURRUEL'S EMPTY. I print what i call 'micro-editions' of 20 to 70 copies at a time. It takes a full twelve hours to print a run of twenty copies, hand feeding each sheet, with full color painted covers on a sturdy 90lb white digital index stock and black and white interiors on a cream colored 60lb digital stock. I think it's worth it.I've been doing EMPTY for about six years, experimenting with materials and formats, selling copies on the streets and in bars and the occassional small press convention. I think the current format is one i can be proud of and will hold it's own on any shelf around. In November of '07 i began a working relationship with Mr. Tony Shenton, (
[email protected]), who has since helped introduce EMPTY to some of the finest comic and book stores in the nation. Stores like Forbidden Planet and Jim Hanley's Universe in New York, Chicago Comics in Illinois, Comic Relief and Meltdown Comics in California, Alternate Reality Comics in Las Vegas, Comics Dungeon in Seattle, Cosmic Monkey Comics in Portland Oregon and EMPTY is always on the shelves here in Philadelphia at Brave New Worlds and Fat Jack's.To my great relief most of these stores, in the last eight months have re-ordered several times, (meaning at least four times), meaning the books have sold. Not bad for a mini-comic that only sees twenty copies a day.EMPTY is going to be the vehicle for a life's work; a series of novels and stories held together by the single main character 'ROMERO BURRUEL' and his life and experiences. Always a student of the autobiographical-fictive tradition from whence sprange Hemmingway, Henry Miller, Charles Bukowski, John Fante, Knut Hamsun, and even George Orwell i was wonderfully gratified to read comics' own Eddie Campbell, Chester Brown and Even Joe Matt during the last great comic revolution in America.Books like Hate, Eightball, Dirty Plotte, Cerebus, Yummy Fur, Hup, Jim and the Alec sotries got me thru some difficult times, gave me something to think about and finally something to do. EMPTY is a way of giving something back to the medium that gave so much to me.I just want to thank you for checking out ROMERO BURRUEL'S EMPTY. If you like the preview pages, (see photo albums), and are interested in finding more you can leave me a message here,(friend me!)and i can direct you to a retailer in your area or i can maybe send you something myself. Thanks Again!!john
