StoneGruve Social started in July 2002, at Moles Club, Bath, putting on 70+ events over five years.
The music policy is Funk, Soul, Reggae, Drum’n’Bass and anything with a heavy groove, with the main ingredient being HIP HOP, old & new, eclectic & classic, independent and commercial and, wherever possible, bling-free.
The vibe is laidback, attitude-free and…social, like.
StoneGruve Social was named Club of the Month in Hip Hop Connection magazine in Nov 2003, as well as regularly being recommended by Venue magazine, and featuring in Undercover magazine & other local press and national radio, such as Kiss FM & 1xtra.
It is the first regular night in Bath dedicated to showcasing local Hip Hop talent, alongside A-list established & upcoming artists, the majority of whom had never played in Bath before. The events are put together with a bonafide miniscule budget and a massive abundance of t.l.c.
Open mic's and multiple turntable action is also regular StoneGruve activity.
Once StoneGruve started, it was instrumental in prompting a few similar nights to start up in Bath, and helped provide a platform for a previously ignored scene, and helped to nurture new talent.
It also brought the DMC DJ Championships to Bath for the first time in it’s 20 year history, as well as hosting events such as Off The Record's 10th anniversary and being the 1st in the South-West to book MOBO/BET winner, Sway.
StoneGruve was also a training ground previously for DMC UK Team Champs ‘04-’07, The Disablists and UK DMC Champ '06, Asian Hawk.
Recently passing it’s fifth birthday, StoneGruve is Bath’s longest running, best loved Hip Hop night.
The StoneGruve family consists of resident DJs BOBAFATT (aka Bobby Obese), HONEYTRAP (da 1st lady), PETE B, SILENT P (aka Patch Lunch), ASTRO (aka Joplin) and CHUCKY T, while the mic is kept warm by MC Go3 (aka Gusto Fresh) from the Non-Compos-Mentis crew, as well as MC's such as Erl Grey (Elektralux), Mr IX, Leaf Dog & BVA (3amigos) and Minitcha.
