Sounds Beautiful like the Truth

About Me

Like Lao Tzu in Hiphop.

Mello Music Group is music for the soul, from the heart of American culture, opening the personal and private realm of the intelligent Hiphop experience through melodic evocations, beats that corroborate the truth, and voices that roar above the rising void and impose order on the terrible & triumphant moments of everyday life. Concentrated brilliance. This is the compelling sound of Mello Music.

“Sounds Beautiful like the Truth”

float out of your mind. make your home where ease suits you like the middle of a holiday.
Quotations:
"You don't have a soul, You are a soul"
"If the king loves music, it is well with the land"
"Aint it a shame how our elders be tripping/ Still on that old slave mentality/ Now everybodies pimpin/ or at least that's what they tell ya/ Aint it a shame how this music has become the same ol same/ Emcees share the same old names/ you're either "Young" or you're "Little"/ Why they belittle themself remains a riddle"
Heaven or Hell
Dudley Perkins
"when did Baltimore steal Phillies soul?"

2008 Releases

Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime

NEW ALBUM: "SomeOthaShip"

The fOnk will set you free. This soul couple radiates light into west coast Hiphop. Georgia’s youthful flow is a beguiling mix social revolution and raw street wisdom. Her choruses, a haunting echo of our ancestors’ reality. And her beats, a cosmic exploration of interplanetary fOnk. Dudley, on the other hand, is a veteran to the game, whose voice overflows with bluesy, syncopated veracity. He never hits the notes you expect, rhymes to the cadence you imagined, or sounds like anyone else: Dudley captivates with the unmistakable sound of experience, reaching deeper within our collective conscious than most of us are comfortable with. Together, Georgia & Dudley, breathe a spiritual wind back into the supercool, fOnked out vibrations of Hiphop.

“Georgia heavily borrows from golden-era free jazz, floats on a cloud of dusted hip hop and possesses a voice that penetrates the deepest of souls"
Tokion Nov. 2006

"Georgia Anne Mudrow's assimilation of classic soul, jazz and hip-hop is nothing less than innovative, imagine Chaka Khan produced by J-Dilla!"

"To use the title of a famous Thelonious Monk composition as an analogy, Dudley Perkins epitomizes Ugly Beauty. As a singer and MC, Perkins' voice isnt pretty in the strict, conventional sense. Some would argue that he cant sing at all. Nevertheless, hes able to captivate hearts and engage imaginations as he sings about inner-city strife and chasing out personal demons." April 17, 2006

"The title of Thelonious Monk's "Ugly Beauty" provides the best means of describing Dudley Perkins's artistry: Navigating between a shrill falsetto and a croaking tenor, Perkins often lands on notes that more surefooted crooners avoid. His sense of melody seems hazy at best, and his rhythmic gait can get shaky. Nevertheless, Perkins possesses one of the most emotionally potent voices in R&B." April 18, 2006

NEW ALBUM: "101 V2"

June 21st, Japan (Ultra-Vybe)
July 1, Vinyl Worldwide (Fat Beats)
July 26, EU & USA (Groove Attack)

The nation’s capital is home to Hiphop’s most difficult to describe producer & emcee: Oddisee. Oddisee weaves jazz, hiphop & soul into the melodic sampled story of his life. Born to a Sudanese Father and American Mother, Oddisee has been infused with the musical lifestyle since birth. From the records he digs, to the cities he tours, Oddisee seeks out & pens the everyday story thats so fresh its still grimy: his own. In Philadelphia he worked at “A Touch of Jazz Studios” and earned a reputation for a smooth jazz sound. But back in Baltimore he added the drums and bass of the city’s streets and established a whole new era for underground Hiphop. Each track he produces is reminiscent of a more soulful age and still manages to capture the fluidity of life in the space age through a combination of soul samples & live instrumentation. The International vibration he carries through a song is unmistakable. His flow is half Mase, and half Meth; his demeanor Quincy Jones. And the humble he displays might disguise some of his shine, but the fresh kicks on his feet let you know he's got the time. Linguist, lyricist, producer, & programmer, Oddisee’s a trip.
