About Me

See what one donation can do.Javonte has the fight of a tiger. He’ll tell you it’s the fight of a Clemson Tiger – his favorite team. Javonte was diagnosed with sickle cell (SS hemoglobin) at birth. Now, TEN years later, he must receive monthly blood transfusions to prevent him from having future strokes. Javonte’s hemoglobin is always lower than that of a healthy child’s. His hemoglobin can be as low as 7 g/dL before a transfusion; normal level for a child is 11-13 g/dL). He has been through many hospitalizations, surgeries, and transfusions. But if you knew him you would never know he is sick. Javonte handles the pain (of a sickle cell crisis) as long as he can. When he tells me he has to go to the hospital, I know he is sick. He truly is a fighter. Javonte is a smart, happy and caring fourth grader. He maintains an A average, despite missing school – sometimes a week at a time. He loves football and chiding his dad for attending Clemson’s rival college, the University of South Carolina. They have fun teasing each other, especially during football season. We always talk about angels. We believe the people who donate blood are angels. We tell Javonte that they are his angels because they are saving his life. I myself call Blood donors heroes, because they are saving my son's life. We want people to donate now because they know about Javonte, not just donating in his memory.”

My Interests

To have a Sickle Cell myspace from every state. To share the information so we can EDUCATE everyone.

I'd like to meet:

Other people with stories about Sickle Cell. If you have it or know someone that have it, please share your story so we can educate others about it.

Heroes:

The Red Cross, Blood Donars, Children Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), Aflac, Educators, Sickle Cell Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Children Miracle Network, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Wal-Mart, and STARS. Without these organiztions we would have been lost. If you want to help and do not know how, you can donate your time or money to any one of these organiztions. Every second and every dime donated will help save a life.
