About Me

PROFESSOR LOUIE & THE CROWMATIX from Woodstock, NY have been recording and touring nationally for the past six years. Members of The Crowmatix are Prof. "Louie"- vocals, keyboards, accordion, Miss Marie - vocals, percussion, keyboards, Gary Burke - drums, Frank Campbell - bass, vocals, & Josh Colow, guitar, vocals. They have five studio CD’s and two live CD’s on The Woodstock Records label. Professor “Louie” & The Crowmatix played at these premier Theatres: Fairfield & Newtown, CT at the Proctors Theatre, Bolton Center and Bearsville Theatre in NY and The State College Theatre, PA. Clubs: BB Kings & The Cutting Room, NYC, The House Of Blues in LA, The Towne Crier, Cafe Lena & The Turning Point in NY State.& Fitzgeralds in Chicago. Festivals: The Detroit International Street Fair, “Gathering on the Mountain” in PA, The Clermont & Norwich Heritage Festivals, NY and Toledo Blues Festival, OH. They have performed in Ontario, Canada at The London,Windsor and Thunder Bay Blues Festivals. Professor “Louie” & The Crowmatix in 2006 were the featured artists on the syndicated radio show “Acoustic Cafe” from Ann Arbor, MI and ended the year as special guests performing live on the CBS 6 Television Special “Melodies Of Christmas” from The Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, NY.They have received rave reviews in many magazines and newspapers: The Village Voice: “Professor “Louie’s upstate ensemble is an Americana template that jams out timeless rock, country, blues and New Orleans influenced originals”. The Record Review: “… a tasty mix of rhythm & blues and rock & roll. This is a great band.” Professor “Louie” & The Crowmatix CD "CENTURY OF THE BLUES” averaged # 20 for six months on the American Radio Roots charts. Their live concert CD “THE SPIRIT OF WOODSTOCK” was recorded at The New York State Museum to celebrate the anniversary of the Woodstock Festival held in Bethel, NY. The Museum hosted a series of programs and chose Professor “Louie” & The Crowmatix to perform. They garnered much praise for this concert accompanied by the Rock of Ages Horns and the Museum released a CD of the show.Professor “Louie” & The Crowmatix recorded as Rick Danko’s backing band on his critically acclaimed CD “Times Like These” and were the featured musicians on Garth Hudson’s solo CD “The Sea To The North”. They have performed as a double bill with: New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Commander Cody, Graham Parker, Cindi Lauper, The Wailers, Eric Burdon, Johnnie Johnson, Jimmy Vaughn, Bobby Blue Bland, Bela Fleck, James Cotton & Garth Hudson.

Band Members: AARON PROFESSOR "LOUIE" HURWITZ—Multi-instrumentalist – Hammond Organ/keyboards/accordion/vocals. Tagged Prof. “Louie” by original member of The Band vocalist/bassist Rick Danko while performing and touring as a duo. Prof “Louie” co-produced, engineered and performed on The Band’s last three CD's, "Jericho", "High On The Hog" and "Jubilation". He has many production & musician credits including Rick Danko’s CD s "Live On Breeze Hill" & "Times Like These” and produced and played with the Crowmatix on "The Sea To The North" by Garth Hudson. Irelands Four Men & A Dog CD's Dr. A Secret remedy and Long Roads, The David Nelson Band’s “Vision's Under The Moon, “Electric Cabin” by The Cabin Dogs, Prof. “Louie” played with “Graham Parker”and toured and recorded with Mercury Rev on their critically acclaimed CD's. Early in his career, he played piano & organ with “The Mighty Gospel Giants Of Brooklyn. Presently, he has an instructional DVD with Homespun Tapes -“Rock & Blues Accordion”. Professor “Louie” performed in Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia and taught students English through singing as well as The Crowmatix Songbook. This will be released as a DVD documentary.MARIE SPINOSA - Miss Marie from Brooklyn, NY - singer/songwriter, pianist/percussionist had performed for many years in concert with her own groups in the tri-state area. Marie toured the college circuit before moving to upstate NY where she eventually became a member of The Crowmatix. She has co-written many of the songs on Professor “Louie” & The Crowmatix releases. Miss Marie's strong vocals and percussion can be heard on varied recordings: “Deserter's Song" by Mercury Rev, “Jubilation" by The Band and also with Four Men & A Dog. Her soulful background vocals are featured on Rick Danko’s "Sip The Wine" single CD and also on Rick Danko’s "Times Like These” CD. Marie’s percussion can be heard on Garth Hudson’s CD “The Sea To The North”. Miss Marie has a solo CD with The Crowmatix “Collection” and her singing, musical arrangements, piano playing and percussion demonstrate her versatility and consistency.GARY BURKE has held an esteemed career as drummer for Bob Dylan, Graham Parker and many others & best known to the public for his long tenure on drums on over a dozen albums with Joe Jackson. Starting in 1983 with the release of the Top Ten Gold album “Body and Soul”, Gary continued on into the 90s with Joe in a mind-boggling mix of musical landscapes of gold, platinum and Grammy winning albums combined with many world tours and media profiles such as in Modern Drummer Magazine. Gary is now devoting his time to recording and touring with The Crowmatix. Gary was the drummer and percussionist for The Radio City Music Hall Orchestra for four years during the 80’s. FRANK CAMPBELL – played bass with The Rick Danko, Levon Helm duo tours of the 70’s and early 80’s. From there, he moved on playing with Steve Forbert and later relocated to Austin, TX where he worked with Asleep At The Wheel for ten years in the studio and on the road. Frank moved back to The Woodstock area and teamed up with “Louie”. JOSH COLOW – From Woodstock, New York - An in demand rhythm & blues guitarist, Josh has toured The United States and Europe with Jesse Winchester and with his own group. He has worked extensively in the studio with Livingston Taylor, Artie Traum and many others. The latest member to join Prof, “Louie” & The Crowmatix - a great addition.
