I am an artist who's projects are highly poetic and charged with passionate intensity. My art combines strong concepts, which are backed up by my knowledge of art history and art theory, with high quality technique - meticulous and immaculated finish is of extreme importance to me. As Hegel argues 'a work of art is good when its form perfectly expresses its concept'. I, therefore, consider myself a post-conceptual artist.
I started studying art at the age of 14. At 19 I went to University in Brazil to study fine arts, but a year later I moved to London as Goldsmiths College (University of London) offered me a place to study Art History. This degree course has enabled me to think critically and sensitively about the production of works of art, which reflect and expose aspects of the human condition and take further and/or challenge art traditions in a visually poetic manner, thus aiming at provoking thought, sensation and sentiment.
After completing my degree I studied glass making. Developing this skill has contributed enourmoulsy for my understanding of the relationship between making and meaning. Hence my deep concern with materials and technique- techinical skill inevitably adds layers of signification to any art form.
Apart from making art, I have worked for major art institutions such as The Saatchi Gallery, London and The Ashmolean Museum (Oxford University's museum and the oldest museum in the world). I have also taught glass making at the Liquid Glass Centre in England.
Nietzschean at heart, I do agree with him when he says that "Art is the only possible explanation for the human suffering" (The Birth of the Tragedy)
I am very interested in working with young and independent curators and in doing collaborative projects with other artists, video makers, photographers and music composers/producers.
