Britpop
is not only produced in Britain. German band Saviour is a good example. Their
well tuned melodies and wisely engineered guitar sounds are accompanied by
strong percussions that get you hooked after the first listen. The band was
founded by Jan Freudenberger (vocals/guitar) and Max Spengler in 1998 as "Gin
Tonix". The following year they added Daniela Soff on bass, then Manuel Uhlmann
(lead guitar) joined in 2000 and Peter Lucks (drums) in 2004.
Just as Saviour reached a new level of success when they took part in a concert
filmed for German channel WDR-Newcomer-TV, Daniela and Peter decided to leave
the band in mid-2005. After a brief period of idleness, Uwe UFO Sander joined
the band on bass, and Jürgen Villmer on drums. In this brand new lineup Saviour
wrote a number of new and more mature sounding tunes, and produced the two EPs
"Chance to live" and "Everything Breaks".
Just after having completed "Everything Breaks", Jürgen had to leave the band
for personal reasons. However, he was quickly replaced with drummer Frank
Burger.
The new lineup is here to stay. Saviour have already written a number of new songs and are looking to play bigger gigs as well. "The chemistry within the group is better than ever" says lead guitarist Manuel. The idea is to break into the music scene of other parts of Germany and to then to take on the UK.
