Johnny and Gree C. met skateboarding and started up a hardcorepunk band Half Way There. The band cherished a weird Minor Threat meets Bad Religion sound, and if you never got a chance to check ‘em out live, before finally breakin’ up, (due to many mysterious factors the year 2000. brought - such as: computer malfunction, end of the world etc.), you’re fuckin’ lame…Anyhow, a year or two passed, Gree C. played drums in (now famous) Euforia, and a couple of other shitty bands, such as Kosmichki Qratz (Cosmic Cock)…
Johnny crashed at this place his high school buddy Andonoff was renting with some friends, during the first Exit festival in Novi Sad.
From all that partying, drugs ‘n’ booze they started getting strange ideas about starting up the best punkrock band in the world ever, and so they called-up ole Gree C., made a couple of songs and started practicing once a week.
Andonoff was on the guitar at first; same as Johnny (who also did the lead vocals), Gree C. was beating on that drum, and a strange pot-head named Keffa (ex Barfly) was on the bass at the time.
This didn’t work so Andonoff and Keffa swapped.
This didn’t work very well either but they decided to record some songs anyways.
The result was a CD/EP titled “The Crew†put out by the band itself.
Then came the first gig with Prljavi Dripci (Filthy Scumbags), Falling Life and Sweeper from Krusevac. They tought: “This wasn’t so bad ?!â€, so they continued playing all over Serbia with other local bands – twice opening for bigger acts like Stretch Arm Strong (USA) and The Real McKenzies (Vancouver, BC) in Belgrade.
By this time the second ep came out on Bad Man Rec. titled “Disposable CD/EPâ€
However, due to Johnny’s drunken state at the shows, and tendencies to fuck up a lot on the guitar, they decided to call Keffa’s brother Lumber (ex Barfly) for help w/ the six strings. He was more then happy to join in.
Unfortunately, Keffa recently decided to quit the band due to his Kyoko-Sheen-Kaih-Karate carrier (not sure if I spelled that right..but who cares?) So the current line up looks a little something like this:Gree C. Stake – drums
Lumber – guitar
Andonoff – bass & backing vocals
Johnny Stakes – lead vocalsHigh Stakes will soon be hitting the studio to record their debut full length.
Been ‘round for five years or so and are nowhere close to givin’ up rockin’.
Enjoy!
