Dan Crook and Jeff Trathen have been writing songs for about 20 years, each writing separately over the course of their teens and early twenties. Jeffs early influences were folk and rock artist like Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Jerry Garcia, while Dan favored a more traditional country influence. After moving to Texas from Northwest Indiana in the late 80s, both found themselves disenchanted with the state of popular music in general and country music specifically. They began listening to the local singer / songwriter styles of Tom Russell, Robert Earl Keen, Guy Clark, too many great songwriters to mention. It was then they both knew they had found the perfect combination of all of their early influences.In 1998, the cd "Bluewing" was released to rave reviews. They also appeared on the nationally syndicated T.V. show "The all you can eat Texas Music Cafe". The song "BLACK DIAMOND" from the cd was recorded by KATY MOFFATT and released on her great cd "COWBOY GIRL". It was also recorded by JEAN PRESCOTT and released on her great cd "Embers of Time".In 2000, Jeff moved back to Indiana to be with his family. Dan still lives in Houston.Plans were made for a second cd, and about thirteen songs were recorded. This was accomplished by Jeff recording his parts in Indiana, and sending them to Dan in Houston, where he recorded his parts. Several songs were completely finished, sometimes those songs will be on here as "unreleased". Maybe someday the whole thing will be finished. Until then, thanks for checking out the site.
