Loviatar is a girl duo (with an occasional male harmonica-player or percussionist).
Tuulia sings.
Satu plays the accordion.
They both play kantele, bowed harp (jouhikko) and percussion as well as write the songs.
Tuulia studies classical singing and has been acting and singing in various theatres in Tampere.
Satu studies in the folk music department of Kokkola conservatory and has also performed in various Finnish punk bands and Irish music groups.
They studied folk music together in Kaustinen.
Loviatar is also a character in ancient Finnish mythology (Kalevala).
The name Loviatar stems from a word meaning "going in the state of trance".
