About Me

"This country's next important trombone voice" - JazzUK Magazine, Oct. 2006
Born in Preston in 1980, Alistair White is a freelance trombonist now based in London. A multiple award-winner (see below) and predominantly a jazz musician, Alistair has played most major venues with his own quartet including Ronnie Scott's in London and the Blue Note in New York. He is also heavily in demand as a sideman, regularly playing with the likes of John Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Stan Tracey, Guy Barker, Alan Barnes & Denys Baptiste.
All of the country's major big bands call upon Alistair's services, including the BBC Big Band, the Ted Heath Orchestra, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Colin Towns' Mask Orchestra, the Jazz Jamaica All-Stars and Mike Garrick's Jazz Britannia ensemble. Alistair has worked alongside visiting international bandleaders such as Quincy Jones, Sammy Nestico, Tony Bennett, Maynard Ferguson and Hugh Masekela. In the world of salsa, Alistair is also a popular choice, featuring with artists such as Alex Wilson and Victor Hugo.
Alistair's pop work is diverse, ranging from recording with dance acts such as Kyoto Jazz Massive, Tim Deluxe, Rasmus Faber & Copyright through to sessions with rock acts the Killers and the Stereophonics, and most recently Yusuf Islam. For 5 years, Alistair toured with Jools Holland, gigging and recording with such luminaries as Eric Clapton, Sting, George Harrison, Tom Jones, Van Morrison, George Benson and Jamiroquai. Other artists Alistair has toured with include Kid Creole, Tony Hadley and Tony Christie.
As well as his session and jingle work, Alistair can often be seen in house bands on TV shows such as the X-Factor, Strictly Dance Fever and Later. Alistair currently occupies the trombone chair of the West End musical Hairspray. Other London show credits include The Lion King, Dirty Dancing, Guys & Dolls, Chicago, The Producers, Porgy And Bess & The Ratpack.
