From an early age I have always been into music, listening to pop, 70..s glam rock , disco, two-tone, punk and reggae.
When I left school I was introduced to the jazz funk scene by a work colleague. The soul boy had arrived, complete with baggy jeans, sailing shoes, t-shirt (stripey, of course!), white socks and the trademark wedge haircut.I purchased most of my vinyl from Route 66, South Ockendon, Essex, where I spent many a Saturday hanging out. Club-wise Monday nights at the Prince of Wales pub in South Ockendon were a must, Flicks in Dartford, Kent on a Thursday and the Goldmine on Canvey Island, Essex at the weekend.I have been to many all-dayers, all-nighters, soul weekenders and have visited different venues around the country trying out clubs and continue to do so.Years ago, at the height of the soul scene, I contributed to the Groove weekly fanzine with a column profiling different D.J.s. The copies are stashed in my loft, along with all my other soul memorabilia.Music is still a massive part of my life. I have got into Northern soul in a big way over the last couple of years and I think today’s R..n..B tunes are tomorrow’s classics.
