2008 will see the 21st anniversary of indie distribution powerhouse Southern Record Distributors (SRD). Originally set up back in 1987 as a vehicle to distribute Southern Records releases, including music by Crass, Fugazi and Babes In Toyland, over the years it has morphed into the multi-genre beast we see today and one of the biggest independent music distributors in Europe. On this long journey SRD has distributed some truely legendary names and labels from pretty much ANY significant scene. From the earlier days with Nirvana, Sub Pop, Beck, Dischord, Touch & Go, Big Black, Slint, Mudhoney, Glitterhouse and Fugazi, to Suburban Bass, S.O.U.R., Metalheadz, Kranky, Constellation, Rephlex, Leaf, Irdial, Moving Shadow, Ram, Southern Lord, Tindersticks, The Gossip, Aphex Twin, International Deejay Gigolos, Tempa, Greensleeves, and Platipus, the list literally goes on and on. We've also had chart hits with 'Sesame's Treat' by Smart Es (Suburban Bass), 'Children' by Robert Miles (Platipus), 'Incredible' by M-Beat and General Levy (Renk), 'Playing With Knives' by Bizarre Inc. (Vinyl Solution), 'Heads High' by Mr Vegas and 'Who Am I? by Beenie Man (both Greensleeves). More recently we have distributed first singles or albums by the likes of Hot Chip, Bloc Party, Scissor Sisters, The Long Blondes and The Klaxons, not to mention the massive selling 'Hold Your Colour' by Pendulum (Breakbeat Kaos).
It's fair to say that SRD have paid their dues and the UK music scence would certainly not be the same without it! ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------------
