Rattlesnake Creek String Band

American old time music in a trio and duet format

About Me

The music of “The Rattlers” centers around the fiddling of James Wimmer, from Santa Barbara, California. A respected violin maker, Wimmer played old-time fiddle professionally in Europe from 1971 to 1979. He has an extensive repertoire of unusual fiddle tunes and old songs gleaned from out-of-print vinyl and oral sources. Tom Wolverton has been playing clawhammer banjo for over 35 years. Tom also plays dobro, guitar, mandolin and uilleann pipes. Stuart Mason is a native of West Virginia where he learned mountain music from local fiddlers. He plays guitar and mandolin in the band, and does a bit of flatfoot buck dancing when the spirit moves him. Stuart also is active as a solo performer and as the guitar player in the celtic band, "Molly's Revenge".

Why don't you guys play out more?

We are often asked about where our next gig is, or do we have a CD for sale. We're not that much of a giging band. Jim is very busy building violins, Tom is always working on some kind of spacecraft ...
